The Harborvale, Autograph Collection has officially opened on the shores of Lake Champlain, introducing a new 161-room waterfront hotel in Burlington, Vermont. The property joins Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection and offers lakeside accommodation, locally inspired dining, wellness experiences and community-focused programming in the heart of the city.
Developed by Westport Hospitality, the hotel marks the latest addition to Burlington’s hospitality sector and is designed to appeal to both leisure travellers and local residents. The property is now welcoming guests following a comprehensive reimagining of the waterfront site.
“We are thrilled to officially open The Harborvale doors and welcome our first guests to build memories at our newly re-imagined property,” said Hans van Wees, Managing Director of Westport Hospitality.
“This opening marks an important new chapter for downtown Burlington. We set out to create a place that reflects the spirit of the lake, immersed in our natural surroundings, while offering something truly elevated in this destination, for both visitors and the local community.”
A lakeside destination inspired by Burlington
Located along the shores of Lake Champlain, The Harborvale has been designed to reflect Burlington’s waterfront culture through residential-style interiors, expansive lake-facing spaces and seasonal programming developed with local partners.
The hotel’s dining concept is led by Executive Chef Doug Paine, whose restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and evening bar service every day of the week. The menu follows a timeless American style, combining classic cooking techniques with seasonal ingredients sourced from local producers.
The Great Room serves as the hotel’s social hub, featuring a lake-facing bar and daily activities that celebrate lakeside living. Guests can take part in afternoon tea, fireside storytelling events, performances by local musicians and sunset toasts featuring weather-inspired cocktails.
Outdoor experiences also play a central role in the guest offering. Visitors can explore the nearby Burlington Greenway on foot or by bicycle, while curated picnic baskets encourage guests to enjoy the waterfront. Learn-to-sail packages and other community activities further connect visitors with Lake Champlain.
Additional facilities include an indoor swimming pool, fitness centre and dog-friendly accommodation. Guests also have access to valet parking and onsite self-parking.
Partnerships strengthen local connections
The Harborvale has established partnerships with several local organisations to expand its guest experiences beyond the hotel. These include collaborations with the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, the Community Sailing Center and the Lake Champlain Basin Program, offering exclusive packages, educational activities and special installations.
The hotel also caters to meetings and private events with more than 3,000 square feet of event space across three venues. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake and an outdoor terrace provide a setting for business meetings, weddings and celebrations for up to 125 guests.
Joining Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection places The Harborvale among a portfolio of independently designed hotels that focus on distinctive character and local identity rather than standardised luxury. The opening also strengthens Burlington’s position as a destination for travellers seeking outdoor recreation, culinary experiences and year-round waterfront activities in northern Vermont.
Westport Hospitality, the developer behind both The Harborvale and Hotel Vermont, said the new property was created to celebrate the city’s connection to Lake Champlain while providing an elevated hospitality experience rooted in the local community.
