International passenger traffic at Turkish airports rises in September

The General Directorate of State Airports Authority of Turkey announced passenger traffic results in September 2018. Data shows that Turkish airports handled 11.4% more passengers in the first 9 months of 2018, compared to the same period last year.

During September 2018, Turkish airports handled some 20,785,281 passengers; represents a 4.4 percent increase compared to the same September 2017.

The number of flight movements in September 2018 showed a decrease of 5.2% at domestic flights and an increase of 7.1% at international flights.

The domestic passenger numbers during September 2018 decreased 2.7% to 9,870,047. However, international passenger numbers increased 12.1% to 10,897,477 passengers.

Istanbul's Ataturk Airport remained Turkey's busiest airport with 6.1 million passengers in the month; some 1.7 million passengers on domestic flights and nearly 4.4 million passengers on international flights.

Sabiha Gokcen Airport, Istanbul's second airport on the Asian side, served 3 million air passengers in September, an annual increase of 4 percent.

Cargo traffic was also on the rise, up 7.4 percent year-on-year to top 382.559 tons.
