The AHLA Foundation announces new partnerships with the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) and the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) to enhance workforce development in the hospitality sector. The collaborations aim to bridge academic programs and industry needs by improving access to data, strengthening student engagement, and supporting faculty development. These efforts are part of the Foundation’s broader strategy to prepare hospitality students for evolving professional demands.
The partnerships build upon the AHLA Foundation’s established scholarship programs and signal a deepened commitment to aligning education with real-world career readiness. ICHRIE and ACPHA bring national and international expertise in academic excellence, accreditation, and student development to the initiative. The Foundation says the joint efforts will support strategic planning, elevate academic quality, and ultimately better serve hospitality-focused students across the U.S.
Data-Driven Planning and Academic Accountability
As part of the agreement, ACPHA will provide annual reports detailing institutional performance data for participating hospitality programs. These metrics will inform the AHLA Foundation’s funding priorities and resource allocations. The goal is to support programs that demonstrate strong curriculum alignment with current industry trends and measurable student outcomes.
“We’re not just funding education—we’re investing in the alignment between academic learning and professional readiness,” said Kevin Carey, AHLA Foundation President and CEO. “These partnerships give us the insights needed to support students and programs that effectively prepare graduates to enter the evolving hospitality industry.”
Incoming ACPHA Executive Director Thomas Kube called the partnership “an excellent example of academia and industry working in concert to the benefit of hospitality-focused students.”
Expanding Engagement Through ICHRIE
Through ICHRIE, the Foundation will expand its engagement with students and faculty at affiliated schools, including over 40 Eta Sigma Delta Honor Society chapters. The collaboration also supports a comprehensive landscape analysis of academic programs and enhances faculty development initiatives to help educators stay connected to industry changes.
“Together, we are strengthening pathways to academic excellence, professional development, and industry engagement—ensuring that the next generation of hospitality leaders is empowered, supported, and inspired,” said Dr. Donna Albano, Chair, ICHRIE Eta Sigma Delta Board of Governors.
Preparing the Next Generation of Industry Talent
The AHLA Foundation’s latest efforts reflect a growing recognition that a successful hospitality industry depends on close coordination between education providers and employers. These partnerships mark a new chapter in hospitality education, where academic institutions are expected to deliver not only knowledge but also career readiness.
The Foundation’s approach supports students from the classroom to the workforce by helping ensure that programs maintain industry relevance and foster meaningful connections between students, educators, and employers. With growing demand for skilled professionals in travel and tourism, the initiative comes at a critical moment for the industry’s talent pipeline.
