Sports Tourism Rises with WRC Rally Chile Bio Bío

The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) returns to Concepción, Chile, from 11–14 September 2025 for the fourth edition of Rally Chile Bio Bío, drawing international competitors and spectators while driving a sharp rise in sports tourism across the Biobío Region.

Local organizers, regional authorities, and WRC officials are finalizing large-scale preparations ahead of the event, which is expected to bring a substantial influx of visitors. Concepción’s Rally Village and Fan Zone are at the center of planning efforts aimed at enhancing the spectator experience and boosting local tourism revenues.

Biobío Region Prepares for Global Rally Audience

Rally Chile Bio Bío is recognized for its challenging gravel stages, set within the dense forests and undulating hills of Chile’s Pacific coast. Known as a “driver’s rally,” the event offers a high-speed technical spectacle with 16 stages spanning 306.76 km. The rally returns after successful runs in 2019, 2023, and 2024, gaining a reputation for competitive terrain comparable to Rally Finland and Wales.

“We have been working on the final phase of updating the roadmap, making corrections and improvements to our Safety Plan and Medical Plan, planning television broadcasts, and pre-event activities,” said Felipe Horta, Chairman of Rally Chile Bio Bío. “We are also making progress on everything related to the Rally Village and Fan Zone, which is where we hope to welcome the largest number of fans we are sure will come to the Biobío Region.”

Government Coordination Enhances Logistics and Hospitality

Efforts to support visitor infrastructure are underway at all levels of government. According to Sergio Giacaman, Governor of the Biobío Region, officials are coordinating with law enforcement, transport agencies, and municipalities to ensure smooth operations during the event. Preparations include strengthening public transportation access, crowd management plans, and service enhancements in retail, dining, and hospitality sectors.

“It’s a very important event for the Biobío Region, and that’s why we’ve made a coordinated effort to ensure a successful outcome,” said Giacaman. With thousands of rally fans expected from both Chile and abroad, local hotels, restaurants, and tourism businesses are preparing for a high-volume weekend.

Tourism and Economic Impact

Rally Chile Bio Bío is poised to generate significant tourism revenue. As one of the few South American stops on the global WRC calendar, the event attracts not only motorsport enthusiasts but also general visitors seeking to experience Chile’s natural beauty and regional culture. The 2025 edition is expected to exceed previous attendance figures, contributing directly to hotel occupancy, restaurant bookings, and transport services throughout Concepción and surrounding areas.

Beyond direct economic benefits, the event amplifies Chile’s profile as a host of international sporting events. The WRC’s global broadcast coverage—available via Rally.TV and other media partners—offers visibility for the region’s tourism brand, appealing to audiences in Europe, Asia, and North America.

With only days to go, all departments are working in tandem to ensure the successful delivery of Rally Chile Bio Bío 2025. From high-speed stages in forest plantations to well-equipped fan zones in the city, this year’s rally positions Chile not just as a motorsport venue—but as a growing destination for global sports tourism.
