Where to go in Latin America: ideas for an autumn trip

When summer comes to an end, we start looking for vacation destinations where we can prolong the warm season. And such places, where the warmth lingers, can be found in Latin America.

The problem is that not all countries in the region are safe for tourists. However, if you choose the right location, your vacation can be truly unforgettable.

Travel off Path has named four such destinations, citing recommendations from the US State Department.

The level of street crime and banditry is low here, and tourists can feel safe on the golden beaches and among the architectural monuments.

State of Yucatan

Yucatan, Mexico

Most Mexican states are in a dangerous zone. Only Yucatan and one other can boast the highest level of safety.

Therefore, the historic city of Merida, the iconic Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza, and the magical town of Valladolid can be visited without fear for your wallet or your life.

For many years, the Yucatan authorities have taken a tough stance on crime, adhering to a policy of zero tolerance for gangsters operating in the area. Given Yucatan’s status as one of the safest states in Mexico, it seems that these efforts have paid off.

Campeche, Mexico

The second Mexican state that poses no danger is Campeche. It is located far from the main drug trafficking routes, not to mention the fact that the local government, like the Yucatan government, takes an active stance on crime prevention.

This means that in such beautiful colonial gems as San Francisco de Campeche, Eselchacan, and Tenabo, violent crimes are practically non-existent.

Buenos Aires

Argentina

The birthplace of tango and asado, as well as rich Latin American culture, Argentina is the only country in South America that has a first-level security rating throughout its entire territory.

There are many reasons why this southern country is often called the continuation of Western Europe in the New World: the majestic architecture of Buenos Aires and its European-like culture play a role in this. Of course, tourists are advised to enjoy the famous Argentine steaks and wine.

El Salvador

Four or five years ago, it was difficult to imagine that El Salvador would be included in the list of the safest countries in Latin America.

However, the country’s authorities took a tough stance on this issue and managed to make El Salvador attractive to tourists. Now it is officially safer here than in Costa Rica and Panama. Feel free to visit archaeological sites such as Joya de Seren and Tasumal, as well as natural beauties such as Lake Ilopango and El Bocerón National Park. Also, don’t forget to visit the picturesque historic center of San Salvador with its cathedrals, palaces, and theaters.
