Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection Hotels opens Morea House, a new 90-room luxury hotel in Camps Bay, Cape Town, expanding the brand’s footprint in South Africa.
The hotel begins operations in December 2025 and becomes the first Autograph Collection property in Cape Town. Located along one of the city’s most prominent beachfront areas, the opening targets growing leisure demand for high-end coastal accommodation.
Morea House sits on the Camps Bay shoreline, framed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Twelve Apostles mountain range. The hotel joins Marriott International’s portfolio of independent-style properties under the Autograph Collection brand and is positioned to serve leisure travellers seeking direct access to beaches, dining, and outdoor experiences. The opening forms part of Marriott’s broader expansion strategy across premium and lifestyle segments in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region.
First Autograph Collection property in Cape Town
Marriott International describes Morea House as its first Autograph Collection hotel in Cape Town, marking a milestone for the brand in the destination. “Morea House is our first Autograph Collection property in Cape Town, and it reflects the city’s spirit at every turn,” said Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, Vice President, Premium, Select & Midscale Brands, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International. She added that the property draws inspiration from its ocean and mountain setting while aiming to create an experience rooted in the character of the city.
The hotel is located in Camps Bay, a neighbourhood known for its palm-lined promenade, beaches, and concentration of cafés, restaurants, and boutique retail. The area is one of Cape Town’s most visited coastal districts and remains a key hub for international tourists and domestic travellers. By opening in Camps Bay, Autograph Collection enters a competitive luxury hospitality market dominated by established beachfront hotels and boutique properties.
Morea House features 90 guestrooms and suites, each oriented toward mountain, ocean, or beachfront views. Interiors were designed by Cape Town-based interior architect Tristan du Plessis and incorporate natural materials such as timber, stone, and bronze tones. Public spaces include terraces, communal areas, and curated art displays featuring works by South African artists.
According to the hotel’s management, the design concept aims to balance contemporary architecture with references to local heritage and natural surroundings. “When guests arrive, our intention is for them to feel as if they’ve discovered a sanctuary created just for them,” said Albert Smit, General Manager of Morea House. He said the property is intended to serve travellers seeking relaxation as well as access to Cape Town’s beaches, vineyards, and mountain landscapes.
Dining, wellness, and leisure experiences
Morea House introduces several food and beverage venues positioned around all-day dining and leisure use. The ground-floor restaurant, OMRI, focuses on modern Lebanese cuisine influenced by South Africa’s coastal ingredients and regional flavours. The venue includes an indoor bar and a beach-facing terrace, supported by a selection of regional wines.
The hotel’s second-floor Pool Restaurant operates as a seasonal, poolside dining venue offering fresh and locally driven menus. The space transitions into an evening social setting focused on sunset cocktails overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Additional areas include The Courtyard, designed as a quiet space for informal gatherings, and The Wine Room, which hosts private tastings and small events.
Wellness facilities form a central component of the hotel’s guest offering. Morea House integrates outdoor and experiential wellness activities, including sunrise yoga sessions, coastal walks, guided mountain hikes, and access to swimming facilities. A signature guided cold-water immersion experience in the Atlantic Ocean is positioned as a key wellness activity connected to the local environment.
The on-site spa follows a holistic approach and offers treatments designed around sensory and restorative experiences. Signature therapies include the Morea Elemental Flow massage using fynbos oils and the Morea Ocean Radiance ritual, which combines thermal circuits, body treatments, and sound therapy. These offerings align with a broader trend among luxury hotels to integrate wellness into core guest experiences.
The opening of Morea House reflects continued investment in Cape Town’s high-end hospitality sector, particularly in coastal neighbourhoods that attract year-round tourism. As international travel demand to South Africa stabilises, global hotel groups continue to position lifestyle and luxury brands in destinations with strong leisure appeal. With its debut in Camps Bay, Autograph Collection adds another international brand presence to Cape Town’s beachfront accommodation market.
