Marriott opens first Cape Verde hotel with beach access and ocean views

Marriott International has opened the Four Points by Sheraton São Vicente Resort, marking the company’s first property in Cape Verde. The resort is located above Laginha Beach in Mindelo, on São Vicente island, and offers direct beach access alongside leisure and business facilities.

The opening represents multiple milestones for Marriott, including its official entry into Cape Verde and the launch of its 500th select service hotel in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It also marks the first resort under the Four Points by Sheraton brand in Africa.

Situated within a crescent-shaped bay in Mindelo, a port city known for its vibrant carnival celebrations, the resort is positioned within one of the island’s cultural centres. The property features 127 guestrooms and suites, combining modern design with local influences such as patterned cement tiles, wooden furnishings and decorative wall elements.

“Cape Verde is known for its vibrant spirit, natural beauty and growing global appeal, making it an exciting addition to our network of global destinations,” said Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, Vice President, Premium, Select & Midscale Brand Management, EMEA, Marriott International.

“São Vicente is the ideal destination for us to introduce Four Points by Sheraton’s first resort in the region, offering an authentic sense of place paired with breathtaking vistas along with the brand’s genuine service, comfort and modern style.”

The design of the resort draws on the island’s cultural and architectural identity, incorporating elements inspired by local textures, colours and music heritage. Its art collection includes works by Raya Salman and photographic pieces by Joe Wuerfel, alongside contributions from Cape Verdean artists.

The property provides direct access to Laginha Beach via a skybridge, connecting guests to the waterfront from the first floor, where an infinity-edge pool and pool bar are also located. Dining options include Bayview, serving international cuisine throughout the day, and Ocean Lounge, a poolside venue. A rooftop Skybar with panoramic views is expected to open soon.

Facilities at the resort also include a conference centre with three meeting rooms, multi-purpose event spaces, a fitness centre overlooking the ocean, and the Essência spa, which features treatment rooms, a sauna, Turkish steam bath and jacuzzi. Guests can also access the brand’s Best Brews programme, showcasing local craft beer.

The launch reflects continued expansion in Marriott’s select service segment, which now accounts for more than 30 percent of its portfolio in the EMEA region. The company said the milestone highlights growing demand for modern, consistent hospitality offerings across emerging and established destinations.

“Our select service hotels today represents more than 30 percent of our EMEA portfolio, and this 500th milestone opening underscores the strong demand for consistent and modern hospitality in the region and reflects the power and credibility of our brands in the segment,” added Sandra Schulze-Potgieter.
