American Airlines is set to enhance its trans-Atlantic service by adding five new routes to Europe for the summer of 2025.
Travelers will now have more options to explore iconic European destinations as the airline introduces new flights to Edinburgh, Athens, Madrid, Milan, and Rome.
The expansion marks a significant growth in American’s European network, offering travelers convenient and direct access from several key U.S. hubs.
Starting in the summer of 2025, American Airlines will resume flights to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI), for the first time since 2019, connecting Philadelphia (PHL) to the historic Scottish capital. Known for its towering castles, cobblestone streets, and breathtaking landscapes, Edinburgh will once again be accessible for American Airlines customers who want to explore one of the most charming cities in the United Kingdom.
“We look forward to providing customers more ways to visit their favorite destinations in Europe next summer,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning.
“Resuming service to Edinburgh and adding new routes to other popular destinations across the continent will offer customers convenient access from American’s industry-leading domestic network to all that Europe has to offer.”
Alongside the return to Edinburgh, American Airlines is expanding its footprint in Italy. The new route from Miami (MIA) to Rome (FCO) will provide even more opportunities for travelers to immerse themselves in Italy’s rich history, art, and cuisine.
The airline will also add a route from Philadelphia (PHL) to Milan (MXP), connecting more U.S. passengers to one of Europe’s top fashion capitals. By 2025, American will serve Rome from six U.S. airports, more than any other U.S. airline, offering unmatched convenience for travelers seeking to experience the Eternal City.
Athens, Greece (ATH), another jewel of Europe, will also be more accessible thanks to a new route from Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT). This addition brings the total number of daily flights to Greece to four, offering more options for travelers to bask in the beauty of the Greek islands, explore ancient ruins, and savor Mediterranean cuisine. American Airlines will have more flights to Greece from the U.S. than any other airline next summer, solidifying its position as a leader in connecting travelers to this popular destination.
For the first time, American Airlines will also connect its Chicago (ORD) hub with Madrid (MAD). Spain, renowned for its vibrant culture, diverse landscapes, and exquisite cuisine, is already a favored destination for American travelers. With this new route, passengers will have more options to explore Madrid and beyond, with easy connections to other European, Middle Eastern, and African destinations through American’s partner airlines.
American Airlines is not only expanding its European routes but also increasing capacity across the Atlantic. The airline will offer more than 70 daily departures to over 20 trans-Atlantic destinations in the summer of 2025. Additionally, seasonal routes launched in 2024, such as flights to Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH); Naples, Italy (NAP); and Nice, France (NCE), will return for the summer 2025 travel season. The extension of winter seasonal service from Miami to Paris (MIA to CDG) into the summer will provide even more options for travelers dreaming of the City of Lights.
