American Airlines resumes Northeast operations after Winter Storm Hernando

American Airlines is resuming operations across much of the US Northeast following Winter Storm Hernando, which brought more than 2 feet of snow to several regions and forced widespread flight disruptions.

The airline restarted flights at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport at noon ET yesterday, while operations at Boston Logan International Airport resumed at 1 p.m. ET.

Other airports throughout the Northeast will also restart operations, including Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Providence, which received nearly 3 feet of snow. Operations resumed at Reagan National Airport (DCA) Monday morning, with flights resuming Monday afternoon at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).

To help get customers to and from the Northeast, American has added extra flights — totaling more than 4,000 seats — including flights operated by some of American’s largest aircraft. The schedule is as follows, as of 2 p.m. ET on Feb. 24:

David Seymour, American Airlines’ CEO, said, “I’d like to thank our team members, along with our airport, vendor, and federal partners for their hard work that has positioned us to restart our operations so quickly after a significant winter storm — one that had industrywide impacts.”

“American is known for its swift recoveries, and Winter Storm Hernando is a great example of how our team comes together to deliver for our customers,” added Seymour.

A travel alert remains in effect until Feb. 25, allowing eligible customers additional flexibility to proactively make changes to their travel plans. Customers can reschedule their travel for a future date on aa.com, the American app or by contacting Reservations at 800-433-7300 in the United States or Canada.
