American Airlines is making a strong return to Brisbane with a new winter service launching from Los Angeles (LAX), part of a broader transpacific expansion in collaboration with Qantas. The move is designed to meet rising demand for travel between the United States and Australia, and it brings even more connectivity to some of the region’s most sought-after destinations.
Expanded Access to Australia’s Top Cities
Starting December 5, American Airlines will operate three weekly flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Brisbane (BNE) through the end of January 2026. This seasonal route brings back American’s Brisbane service, offering U.S. travelers direct access to Queensland’s capital and gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, stunning beaches, and exotic wildlife experiences.
Meanwhile, Qantas is strengthening its U.S.–Australia routes. From December 3, Qantas will increase service between Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Melbourne (MEL) to daily flights. Starting in January, all of its flights between DFW and Sydney (SYD) will be operated using the Airbus A380, giving passengers greater comfort and space for the long-haul journey.
Steve Johnson, American’s Vice Chair and Chief Strategy Officer, said, “American is proud to partner with Qantas to increase travel options for customers to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this winter. Together, we offer the most comprehensive service connecting the United States with Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.”
Cam Wallace, Qantas Group CEO of International, added, “The strength of our partnership with American Airlines continues to bring great benefit to our customers around the world. We know Australia remains very popular with U.S. travelers, and these changes will provide increased connectivity onto our vast domestic network to some of Australia’s most unique destinations.”
Where You Can Go: Cities, Islands, and Adventures
With these expanded services, travel between the U.S. and Australia is more convenient than ever, especially for those planning beach vacations, wildlife encounters, or cultural tours. Travelers can build itineraries that include:
- Snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef
- Relaxing on the beaches of the Whitsundays
- Spotting quokkas on Rottnest Island
- Viewing the Aurora Australis from Tasmania’s Mount Wellington
- Exploring vibrant cities like Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane
American and Qantas not only provide comprehensive flight options but also give customers flexibility in how they travel, whether visiting family, taking a long-awaited holiday, or flying for business.
Seamless Travel and Customer Perks
All American Airlines and Qantas flights on these routes will be operated with Boeing 787-9 aircraft. From October 26, American’s DFW to Brisbane route will also return for winter service. Notably, this flight will feature American’s newly redesigned Boeing 787-9 with 51 Flagship Suite® seats and 32 Premium Economy seats, enhancing the onboard experience.
Tickets for American’s new LAX to BNE route will go on sale May 12, giving travelers ample time to plan their holidays in the Southern Hemisphere.
