American Airlines announces plans to open a new Admirals Club lounge at Chicago O’Hare International Airport’s Concourse L, expanding its premium customer experience at one of its busiest hubs.
The lounge will span more than 10,000 square feet and will eventually replace the existing Admirals Club in Concourse L, offering travelers significantly more space and upgraded amenities.
The announcement is made at the 2026 Choose Chicago Annual Meeting, where the airline outlines broader investments in Chicago, including network growth and new nonstop routes scheduled to begin later in 2026. The new lounge is designed to reflect Chicago’s local character while delivering a modern, premium environment for travelers passing through O’Hare.
“We’re helping customers at ORD connect to the world with more than 500 flights daily and we want to offer a premium experience from start to finish,” said Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Officer. “The new Admirals Club® lounge will offer more seating and upgraded amenities and fully reflect the standards our customers expect when visiting one of our lounges.”
The expanded lounge will feature floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping airside views overlooking the runway, creating a bright and open atmosphere for guests. Local design elements inspired by Chicago’s vibrant culture will be integrated throughout the space, adding a regional touch to the airline’s signature lounge style.
Like other recently updated Admirals Club lounges across the airline’s network, the new Concourse L location will be organized into distinct zones referred to as “neighborhoods.” Each area is designed to serve different traveler needs, whether for quiet relaxation, productivity, dining, or socializing, reflecting shifting expectations for airport lounge experiences.
American Airlines continues to deepen its footprint at Chicago O’Hare, one of its major hubs and a key gateway for domestic and international travel. Over the past year, the airline has expanded its Chicago network by more than 180 destinations, strengthening connectivity across North America and beyond.
During peak periods such as spring break, American is operating more than 500 daily departures from O’Hare, underscoring the airport’s central role in the airline’s operations. In addition to the forthcoming Concourse L lounge, American maintains Admirals Club lounges in each concourse and a Flagship lounge between Concourses H and K.
The lounge expansion is part of a broader strategy to elevate the end-to-end travel experience for premium and frequent flyers, focusing on comfort, convenience, and consistency across its airport facilities. By increasing lounge capacity and enhancing amenities, American aims to better accommodate rising passenger volumes while maintaining a high-quality environment.
Looking ahead to late 2026, American is also strengthening its route network from Chicago with new nonstop service to Kahului, Hawaii, beginning in December. The Hawaii flights will feature Flagship Business lie-flat seats and Premium Economy cabins, offering a long-haul-style experience on the transcontinental route.
Additional new routes launching in May 2026 include nonstop service to Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Columbia, South Carolina, further expanding regional and national connectivity from O’Hare. The airline emphasizes that premium seating options will be available across its network, positioning Chicago travelers to access upgraded experiences on every trip.
American Airlines is also enhancing access to its lounge network through its AAdvantage loyalty program. Domestic travelers can enter Admirals Club lounges through annual memberships, qualifying oneworld status, or select co-branded credit cards.
Holders of the Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard receive Admirals Club access as a card benefit, while Citi / AAdvantage Globe Mastercard cardholders can use up to four 24-hour Globe passes each year. Travelers without memberships can purchase a One Day Pass valid for 24 hours for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage miles.
The expanded lounge at Concourse L reflects a wider trend among major airlines investing heavily in premium ground experiences as competition for high-value travelers intensifies. Larger spaces, modern design, improved food offerings, and flexible work areas are increasingly viewed as essential components of the overall journey.
For American Airlines, the Chicago investment signals confidence in the city’s long-term travel demand and its importance as a central hub for both domestic connections and long-haul services. With continued route growth and a refreshed airport experience, the airline is positioning O’Hare as a cornerstone of its premium travel strategy heading into 2026 and beyond.
