Airlines are launching a wave of new direct routes to and from Spain in 2026, connecting the country with North America, Latin America, Asia and cities across Europe.
The expansion is led by Iberia, Delta Air Lines and Singapore Airlines, alongside low-cost and leisure carriers adding seasonal and year-round services from regional Spanish airports.
Iberia is driving much of the long-haul growth from Madrid. The Spanish flag carrier will begin flights to Toronto on 13 June 2026, operating five times a week with the Airbus A321XLR. It is Iberia’s first route to Canada.
The airline will also launch its second Mexican destination, Madrid to Monterrey, on 2 June 2026 with three weekly flights on Airbus A330 aircraft. Iberia is adding Newark as a third daily New York frequency for the summer, lifting Madrid to New York capacity by more than 40% compared with 2025.
María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s chief commercial, network development and alliances officer, said the route was part of a plan to “expand our long-haul network and strengthen our presence in North America”.
JetBlue launched new seasonal transatlantic service between Boston Logan International Airport and Barcelona in April 2026.
Delta Air Lines is mounting its largest transatlantic schedule to date and will add two Spanish routes. The carrier began daily Boston to Madrid flights in May 2026 using the Airbus A330-900neo, and started Seattle to Barcelona on 7 May 2026, operating three times a week.
Canadian carriers are also expanding. WestJet will launch Halifax to Madrid in June 2026, while Air Transat has made its Montreal to Valencia route year-round and is increasing frequencies for the summer after strong demand since the service began in 2025.
New links to Latin America include Level’s Barcelona to Lima service, starting 3 June 2026 with three weekly flights. It is the only nonstop connection between Barcelona and the Peruvian capital. Iberojet will begin nonstop flights from both Madrid and Barcelona to El Salvador in September 2026, while Iberia opened its Madrid to Fortaleza route in Brazil in January 2026.
In Asia, Singapore Airlines will launch a five times weekly Singapore to Madrid service via Barcelona on 26 October 2026, using the Airbus A350-900. The route replaces the carrier’s existing Singapore to Barcelona flights and extends them to the Spanish capital. Etihad Airways will connect Palma de Mallorca with Abu Dhabi from 12 June 2026.
New European routes
Spain’s regional airports are gaining dozens of new European connections. Valencia leads the growth with new services to Oslo with Norwegian from 21 June 2026, Lille with Volotea from 21 May 2026, Florence with Volotea from September 2026, and Rome Fiumicino with ITA Airways from 1 June 2026.
Other notable additions include:
- Bilbao to Vienna with Austrian Airlines, from 25 March 2026
- Bilbao to Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc, from 14 September 2026
- Barcelona to Krakow with LOT Polish Airlines, from 30 March 2026
- Barcelona to Podgorica with Wizz Air, from 1 June 2026
- Palma de Mallorca to Warsaw with LOT, from 30 May 2026
- Palma de Mallorca to Iasi with Animawings, from 7 June 2026
Iberia is adding Bucharest in Romania and Tivat in Montenegro to its short-haul European network for the summer 2026 season.
The new routes come as the three largest United States carriers compete for transatlantic market share. Delta says it will operate more than 650 weekly flights to nearly 30 European destinations at the peak of summer 2026. The growth in long-haul and leisure services is expected to support tourism across Spain, including at secondary airports that have traditionally relied on European traffic.
Some low-cost capacity is shifting at the same time. Ryanair is ending all operations at Vigo and Tenerife Norte, with Vueling, Iberia Express, Binter, Volotea and Wizz Air moving to absorb the freed demand.
