ITA Airways has reported its first annual profit since launching, posting a net result of €209 million for 2025 as passenger demand helped stabilise the airline’s financial performance.
The Italian carrier generated total revenues of €3.2 billion, with €2.8 billion from passenger traffic, while EBITDA reached €404 million and EBIT €25 million.
The results, approved by the Board of Directors on March 24, mark a significant turnaround for the airline and reflect early benefits from its partnership with the Lufthansa Group. The performance comes despite a challenging year shaped by geopolitical tensions, aircraft availability issues, and the lack of a partner carrier on routes between Italy and the United States.
Passenger revenue rose 2.7% year-on-year, even as overall operations declined. ITA Airways operated more than 123,000 scheduled flights in 2025, down 11% compared with 2024, and carried 16.2 million passengers, an 8% decrease. However, the airline improved its load factor to 83.4%, up 2.1 percentage points.

The airline’s profitability was supported by improved EBITDA, which increased by €67 million compared with the previous year, and a positive cash flow of €639 million. Financial results also benefited from favourable currency adjustments, particularly involving US dollar-denominated balances.
Fleet expansion continued during the year, with 10 new aircraft added and three older models retired. By the end of 2025, ITA Airways operated a fleet of 106 aircraft, including 24 wide-body and 82 narrow-body jets. Around 70% of the fleet now consists of new-generation aircraft, with an average age of 6.5 years.

“2025 marked a turning point for ITA Airways: we have posted a profit for the first time, confirming that we are on the right track”, said Joerg Eberhart, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of ITA Airways. “This is the result of the commitment of the entire company and the first tangible effects of our industrial partnership with the Lufthansa Group. “However, we know that to achieve fully sustainable profitability, we must reduce the burden of fleet leasing costs; we are already working resolutely on this”.
Despite the positive results, the airline said high financial costs linked to fleet leasing continue to weigh on its operating sustainability. Maintenance-related groundings of short- and medium-haul aircraft, particularly due to Pratt & Whitney engine issues, also affected operations during the year.
“Today we are celebrating another historic milestone for the company. The approved results confirm the soundness of ITA Airways’ trajectory and the value of the collaboration between its shareholders”, comments Sandro Pappalardo, Chairman of ITA Airways. “The Company continues to play a central role in the country’s connectivity, with a strategy based on quality, sustainability and innovation. This cooperation is crucial to building a modern and competitive airline, for the benefit of the country as a whole”.
The airline said it will continue to focus on improving cost efficiency and strengthening profitability as it builds on its partnership with Lufthansa and expands its modernised fleet.
