Southwest Airlines is expanding its West Coast network in 2026 with new routes linking California and Hawaii, alongside increased service in San Diego and additional flights across Greater Los Angeles.
The airline has extended its booking schedule through Sept. 30, 2026, and placed its new offerings on sale at Southwest.com.
The carrier announced peak-day service between Burbank and Honolulu beginning Aug. 4, 2026, and new daily flights between Ontario and Honolulu starting June 4, 2026. The additions come as Southwest prepares for a record 139 scheduled departures from San Diego during August and September 2026 and strengthens its regional network across Southern California.
Expanded service across San Diego and the Pacific Northwest
Southwest said its San Diego growth reflects ongoing investment in Customer Experience upgrades both on board and at Terminal 1. The airline will launch once-daily service between San Diego and Santa Barbara on Aug. 4, 2026, marking its 44th destination from the city. It also plans to double daily roundtrip flights between San Diego and Portland, Salt Lake City, and Seattle beginning the same day.
“For more than 25 years, we’ve served more destinations and carried more Customers than any other airline in California,” said Adam Decaire, Senior Vice President Network Planning and Network Operations Control at Southwest Airlines. “New facilities like those in San Diego and Burbank, along with our onboard Customer enhancements, have Southwest positioned to continue offering more for Customers in Southern California and beyond for many years to come.”
Greater Los Angeles gains new links to Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest
In Greater Los Angeles, Southwest is expanding long-haul and regional connectivity with two new California–Hawaii links. The airline will connect Burbank and Honolulu with peak-day service beginning Aug. 4, 2026, while daily Ontario–Honolulu flights start June 4, 2026. At Long Beach Airport, where Southwest remains the largest carrier, new service to Portland and Seattle will operate six days per week from Aug. 4, 2026, marking the airline’s return to these Pacific Northwest routes.
The network expansion accompanies Southwest’s continued rollout of Customer Experience upgrades, including assigned and premium seating, free Wi-Fi for all Rapid Rewards Members through T-Mobile, and in-seat power on Boeing 737-8 aircraft. The airline plans to extend in-seat power across its full fleet.
Southwest’s schedule now includes more than 300 days of flights available for booking. The airline is encouraging travelers to join its Rapid Rewards program, which offers points earnings, partner benefits, and access to free Wi-Fi for Members.
