Passengers on a Qantas flight from Sydney to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport were left uncomfortable when a technical error resulted in an adult-rated film being shown on all screens.
Due to a glitch in the in-flight entertainment system, passengers were unable to select their own movies, prompting the crew to choose a film that would be shown simultaneously on all seat-back screens.
Unfortunately, the film selected was “Daddio,” a 2023 movie featuring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, which contains sexual content and explicit references.
“Daddio” is rated R in the United States for “language, sexual material, and brief graphic nudity” and classified as MA15+ in Australia for “strong language and nudity.”
The movie includes references to oral sex, masturbation, and other explicit scenes, which left passengers shocked.
Some complained that there was even a brief yet clear image of an erect penis shown on a phone screen, as well as photos of breasts and sex-related dialogue.
Several passengers expressed their discomfort with the unexpected content, taking to social media to share their reactions.
Comments like “40 minutes of penis and tits” and “poor children and their parents” circulated online, highlighting the unfortunate incident.
Due to the malfunction, passengers couldn’t change or remove the film from their screens, leading to further frustration.
Qantas issued an apology, acknowledging that the movie was not appropriate to be shown on a public flight. “The film was clearly not suitable to be shown throughout the flight, and we sincerely apologize to customers for this experience,” a Qantas spokesperson said. The airline confirmed that, for the remainder of the flight, all screens were switched to a family-friendly movie, which is standard procedure when such technical issues occur. Qantas is currently investigating how “Daddio” was mistakenly chosen.
