Vienna Airport handles nearly 2 million passengers in February 2026

The Flughafen Wien Group showed a positive development of passenger traffic in February 2026.

Total passenger volume in the entire Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) rose 5.8% year-on-year to 2,644,359 travellers.

The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport climbed 1.7% to 1,933,586 in the month of February 2026.

Passenger volume at Malta Airport in February 2026 climbed by 17.4% to 658,328 travellers (+17.4%) and Kosice Airport registered strong growth of 37.3% to 52,445 passengers.

The conflict in the Middle East has led to restrictions in air traffic across the region since 28 February 2026 but has not yet had any impact on traffic results in February.

The number of local passengers at Vienna Airport rose slightly by 0.1% compared to February 2025 to 1,568,911 travellers, whereas transfer passenger traffic fell by 0.4% to 324,872. For this reason, the increase in passenger traffic at Vienna Airport is mainly related to refuelling stops on the part of Air India aircraft, in which passengers are not permitted to leave the planes (so-called “transit passengers”).

The number of flight movements in February 2026 declined by 1.9% to 14,694 starts and landings. The seat load factor was up 2.3 percentage points compared to February 2025, reaching 78.1%. Cargo volume totalled 24,705 tonnes, comprising an increase of 6.3% from the prior-year month.

Details on passenger traffic

In February 2026, passenger traffic from Vienna Airport to Western Europe equalled 640,711 travellers (+0.2% YoY). The number of passengers flying to Eastern Europe in February 2026 amounted to 126,899 travellers (-9.0%). Vienna Airport reported a total of 19,107 passengers flying to North America (+12.0%) and 29,953 travellers to Africa (+4.6%). Passenger traffic to destinations in the Middle East were down by 1.5% to 67,331 travellers in February 2026, whereas passenger volume to the Far East totalled 57,497 (+10.5%).

The total number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the months of January and February 2026 increased by 1.4% from the previous year to the accumulated figure of 3,843,772 passengers. Total cargo volume in the period January-February 2026 equalled 47,384 tonnes, implying a rise of 5.8% from the prior-year level. Passenger volume in the entire Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) in this two-month period was up 5.4% to 5,201,544 travellers.
