MSC Bellissima Launches AI Robot Dogs and Humanoid Pilot

MSC Cruises has officially launched a pilot program featuring autonomous, AI-powered robotics aboard the MSC Bellissima, marking a first for the global cruise industry.

The initiative, developed in partnership with Unitree Robotics, introduces a fleet of robotic dogs and humanoid units designed to integrate into the ship’s daily entertainment and passenger interaction schedules.

The deployment is part of a broader 2026 entertainment refresh across the MSC fleet. Currently operating on MSC Bellissima during its Asia-based itineraries, the robots are utilized for scheduled meet-and-greet sessions, themed parades, and digital-first performances. According to company officials, the goal is to enhance the guest experience through “immersive technology” that appeals to a multi-generational demographic.

The robotic units are not limited to passive displays. Onboard programming now includes:

  • Interactive Workshops: Educational sessions for children aged seven and older, focusing on the fundamentals of robotics and future tech.
  • Doremix Family Disco: Integrated dance routines where the AI dogs and humanoids perform alongside passengers.
  • Mobile Interaction: Periodic appearances in public lounges and the ship’s Mediterranean-style promenade.

Steve Leatham, MSC Cruises’ VP of Entertainment, stated that the company is “building on what our guests already love while introducing new ideas, new energy, and new cruise-industry first experiences.” The pilot program serves as a testing phase for the artificial intelligence systems before a scheduled expansion to other vessels.

Following the current trial on MSC Bellissima, the robotics program is slated to expand to MSC Magnifica later this year, specifically during segments of its 2026 World Cruise. While the robots currently serve an entertainment-focused role, industry analysts suggest the pilot could provide data for future service-oriented applications, such as guest navigation or automated assistance.

The MSC Bellissima, which entered service in 2019, has long served as the brand’s primary “smart ship,” featuring the Zoe voice-activated virtual assistant in every cabin. This latest move solidifies the vessel’s role as the fleet’s leading incubator for emerging maritime technologies.
