Hotel Occupancy in Valencia Hits 85% in July, Slightly Below 2024

Valencia closed July with a hotel occupancy rate of 85.4%, according to data from the city’s tourism foundation, Visit València. The figure is 1.6 points below the same month last year, reflecting a slight slowdown from the record summer of 2024.

The survey, which covered 70% of the city’s hotels, showed the average nightly room price at €126.9, down 11.6% from last year. Revenue per available room (RevPAR) dropped to €108.2, a 13.8% decline. Both metrics are below 2024 levels, which marked the best year in Valencia’s tourism history.

Looking ahead, hotel occupancy for August is currently projected at 67.3%, with the possibility of last-minute bookings increasing the final figure. City tourism councilor Paula Llobet said the data indicates a “solid and resilient” market, though international demand continues to recover from the disruptions caused by the DANA storm earlier this year.

National statistics show that hotel overnight stays between January and June reached 2.32 million, down 5.8% from 2024. International stays fell 10.8% to 1.46 million, while domestic stays rose 4.2% to 861,313. Compared with 2023—the city’s second-best year on record—tourism in 2025 remains higher in travelers, overnight stays, and average prices, despite lower occupancy and revenue.

Tourism remains at levels considered positive, Llobet said, adding that growing flight connectivity is supporting the city’s gradual recovery.

The figures reignited a local debate over implementing a tourist tax. Compromís councilor Ferran Puchades argued that an 85% occupancy rate justifies charging visitors to help fund public services like transport, security, and sanitation. He noted that several Spanish cities, including Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña, have already approved similar measures.
