The Formula 1 circus roars back into Belgium this weekend, with Spa-Francorchamps hosting Round 13 of the 2025 season from July 25 to 27.
Set deep in the lush Ardennes forest, this legendary 7.004 km circuit is a fan favorite for its natural beauty, unpredictable weather, and jaw-dropping speed.
This year’s event brings added excitement with a Sprint weekend format—meaning competitive action every day. Whether you’re an F1 veteran or a first-timer heading to Spa, here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your race weekend.
🏎️ What’s New in 2025
The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix comes with more than just fast corners and forest air. A major storyline this weekend is the ongoing title battle: Oscar Piastri leads the championship by just 8 points over Lando Norris, with Max Verstappen trailing close behind.
This will also be Red Bull’s first race without team boss Christian Horner, who was recently dismissed. New team principal Laurent Mekies will be under the spotlight as the team regroups mid-season.
The high-stakes drama fits perfectly with Spa’s high-speed reputation—and the Sprint format makes it even more unpredictable.
📅 Weekend Schedule
Spa is hosting one of six Sprint weekends on the 2025 calendar. That means fans get to enjoy meaningful sessions every day:
- Friday, July 25
– Free Practice: 12:30–13:30
– Sprint Qualifying: 16:30–17:14 - Saturday, July 26
– Sprint Race: 12:00–13:00
– Grand Prix Qualifying: 16:00–17:00 - Sunday, July 27
– Grand Prix: 15:00 (44 laps)
🎟️ Tickets and Fan Zones
Spa offers a range of ticket options. Bronze (general admission) provides grassy hillside access and is popular with budget-conscious fans. Silver and Gold grandstands offer better views—especially near corners like Eau Rouge, Pouhon, and La Source.
Expect gates to open early: 8:00 on Friday, 9:00 on Saturday, and as early as 7:30 on Sunday for race day. Arriving early is crucial if you want to claim good general admission spots.
Fan zones include giant screens, merchandise shops, and food stalls. Supporting races like Formula 2, Formula 3, and Porsche Supercup run throughout the weekend to keep fans entertained.
🌧️ Weather & What to Bring
Spa is famous for its microclimate. It’s not unusual to see rain in one sector while another stays dry. Pack a waterproof jacket, hat, and good walking shoes—some grandstands require uphill hikes or grassy terrain.
Ear protection is a must, especially in general admission areas. Bring a charged phone but also print your tickets, as mobile signals can be unreliable with so many people on-site.
You can bring non-alcoholic drinks and snacks, but no glass bottles or BBQs. Reusable water bottles are allowed, and water refill stations are available around the circuit.
🚗 Getting There and Around
The Spa-Francorchamps circuit is located near the village of Francorchamps in eastern Belgium, about 1.5 hours from Brussels by car. Driving is the most common option, but expect congestion near the venue, especially on Sunday.
There are several designated parking zones:
- Yellow (near La Source)
- Green (near Les Combes)
- Red (close to Blanchimont)
Park-and-ride shuttles are also available for around €30 per day. Many fans prefer parking a bit farther out and walking in to avoid traffic jams at the gate.
The circuit is not fully cashless. While some vendors use a wristband payment system, others still accept cash. Credit and debit cards may not be accepted everywhere, so bring some euros just in case.
🛏️ Where to Stay
Hotels in nearby towns like Spa, Malmedy, and Stavelot book up quickly. Expect higher prices and minimum-stay requirements. Some fans camp near the circuit, with official and private sites offering toilets, showers, and shuttle access.
If you’re staying farther out, plan your daily arrival early. Traffic builds from early morning, especially on race day.
🏁 Experience the Magic of Spa
Few venues on the F1 calendar rival Spa for atmosphere. Whether it’s the legendary Eau Rouge corner, the thunder of 20 cars screaming through the forest, or the sight of clouds rolling in from the hills, Spa offers a visceral motorsport experience.
Hollywood actor Brad Pitt recently named Spa his favorite circuit, saying watching Fernando Alonso race here “sucks the air out of your lungs.” For fans and first-timers alike, it’s a place where speed meets soul.
With high drama on and off the track, historic surroundings, and full-throttle racing every day, the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix is a must-see. Just don’t forget your raincoat.
