Shakira Returns as the Voice of the World Cup with New Anthem “Dai Dai”

Colombian superstar Shakira has unveiled a teaser for “Dai Dai,” the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in a collaboration with Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy.

The full track is set for release on 14 May, less than four weeks before the tournament kicks off across the United States, Mexico and Canada on 11 June.

Shakira, 49, shared the one-minute preview on her social media channels on Thursday, filmed at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracaná Stadium. The clip generated close to two million likes within 24 hours of going live, underscoring the global anticipation surrounding both the song and the tournament.

The teaser opens with four footballs representing each of the four World Cup editions with which Shakira has been associated, before showing the artist performing alongside a group of dancers dressed in outfits inspired by various national football teams. The clip ends with an aerial shot of the stadium displaying the message “We Are Ready.”

“From Maracaná Stadium, here is Dai Dai, the FIFA World Cup Official Song 2026. Coming 5/14. We’re ready!” Shakira wrote in the caption accompanying the post.

A Second Official World Cup Anthem

“Dai Dai” marks Shakira’s second official World Cup anthem. Her 2010 track “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” recorded for the South Africa tournament, became one of the most recognised songs in the history of the competition. She also performed an adapted version of “Hips Don’t Lie” at the closing ceremony of the 2006 World Cup in Germany, and contributed “Dare (La La La)” for the 2014 edition in Brazil.

The new track is a collaboration with Burna Boy, the Grammy Award-winning Nigerian artist who has become one of the leading figures in global Afrobeats. Previous artists to have recorded official World Cup anthems include Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez, Nicky Jam, Will Smith and BTS member Jung Kook.

A Separate Coca-Cola Track

Dai Dai” is the official FIFA anthem for the tournament and is separate from the commercial campaign track commissioned by Coca-Cola, a reimagination of Van Halen’s “Jump” featuring Colombian singer J Balvin, drummer Travis Barker, singer Amber Mark and guitarist Steve Vai.

Tournament Details

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first edition to feature 48 teams and is co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. The competition opens on 11 June with Mexico facing South Africa at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The final will be held on 19 July at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
