Sailing with High-Speed Internet: Starlink on Holland America Line’s Fleet

Holland America Line is progressing swiftly with the integration of SpaceX’s Starlink internet across its fleet of 11 ships, aiming to offer enhanced connectivity and a seamless online experience to its guests and team members.

The first ship to be equipped with this advanced technology was Koningsdam, and now, Oosterdam, Volendam, Westerdam, Zaandam, and Zuiderdam also boast high-speed internet on board.

Starlink, a leader in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, provides high-speed, reliable internet globally. The ships equipped with Starlink have traversed through Alaska, the Mediterranean, and Canada, receiving positive feedback from guests and team members on the Wi-Fi’s performance.

Kathleen Erickson, the vice president of technology for Holland America Line, emphasized the importance of staying connected and the continuous adaptation to evolving technology. “Our goal is to continue keeping all guests connected to the internet to share their memorable experiences, and to allow our team members to stay in touch with their loved ones back home,” she said. “It’s important we stay up to date with evolving technology to ensure the best experience for everyone stepping foot on our ships.”

The incorporation of Starlink ensures faster and more reliable internet access in all weather conditions and locations, allowing guests and team members to stay connected with their loved ones and maintain professional communications seamlessly. The upgrade is particularly beneficial for guests who need to manage professional commitments while on board.

Holland America Line plans to complete the installation of Starlink internet on the remaining five ships in its fleet by mid-December 2023, marking a significant enhancement in the guest experience through improved connectivity.
