SAS launches high-speed Starlink WiFi with free access for members

SAS is launching high-speed inflight WiFi powered by Starlink, offering free access to EuroBonus members as part of a new partnership with mobile operator 3.

The service goes live from today, 24 March, with rollout initially focused on the Airbus A320 fleet and expected to cover a substantial share of aircraft before the summer season.

The upgrade delivers gate-to-gate connectivity at up to 500+ Mbps, marking a significant improvement to the airline’s onboard digital experience. SAS is the first airline in Europe to introduce Starlink on an Airbus A320, using a network of more than 10,000 low-Earth orbit satellites to ensure stable connections even on northern routes.

The rollout begins with the Airbus A320 family and will expand to additional aircraft types later in 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. SAS says the new system is designed to support streaming, gaming, content creation and real-time communication throughout the journey.

Key features of the new onboard WiFi include:

  • Free connectivity for EuroBonus members from 24 March
  • Speeds of up to 500+ Mbps during flights
  • Gate-to-gate internet access across equipped aircraft
  • Reliable performance at northern latitudes and remote routes

“Connectivity has become a natural part of everyday life, including when travelling. With this launch, we are taking a major step toward offering our customers a more flexible, productive and enjoyable time on board. Whether they want to work, create, play or stay in touch, this solution brings the onboard experience closer to how people live today”, said Paul Verhagen, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at SAS.

The Starlink-powered service forms part of SAS’ wider strategy to improve its digital inflight experience as the airline continues its operational turnaround. With high-performance connectivity in place, SAS plans to introduce additional services aimed at boosting productivity and entertainment onboard.

Before the official launch, SAS conducted a demonstration flight on 14 January to showcase the system’s capabilities under real flight conditions. The test highlighted stable performance across northern latitudes and the ability to handle high-bandwidth activities such as streaming and live communication.

The introduction of Starlink WiFi, which ranked fastest in-flight internet, places SAS among a growing number of airlines investing in next-generation in-flight connectivity, as demand for seamless digital access continues to rise across the travel sector.
