Murcia Airport has added two new international routes for the summer season, expanding its network with direct flights to Venice in Italy and Lille in France. The services are operated by Spanish airline Volotea and mark the airport’s first connection to Italy and its second to France.
The new routes begin on 28 June and aim to strengthen Murcia’s links with European leisure and cultural destinations. The airport already offers more than a dozen connections, mainly to the United Kingdom, and continues to grow its international reach ahead of peak travel months.
Volotea is set to provide more than 7,500 seats across 42 flights on the two routes throughout the summer. With these additions, the airline will operate six routes from Murcia, including three domestic services and three international connections.
The Murcia to Venice service runs twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays. Flights depart Murcia at 18:00 on Wednesdays and 18:45 on Sundays, arriving in Venice at 20:25 and 21:10 respectively. Return flights leave Venice Marco Polo Airport at 15:05 on Wednesdays and 15:50 on Sundays, landing in Murcia at 17:30 and 18:15. The flight time is approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes.
The Murcia to Lille route also operates twice a week, with flights scheduled on Thursdays and Sundays. Departures from Murcia are at 09:20 on Thursdays and 10:05 on Sundays, arriving in Lille at 12:00 and 12:45. Return services leave Lille-Lesquin Airport at 06:15 on Thursdays and 07:00 on Sundays, landing in Murcia at 08:45 and 09:30. Flight duration ranges between 2 hours 30 minutes and 2 hours 40 minutes.
The addition of Venice introduces a major Italian destination known for its canals and historic architecture to Murcia’s route map. Lille, located in northern France, adds a lesser-known but culturally significant city, broadening options for both leisure and city-break travellers.
The expansion reflects continued demand for direct international travel from regional Spanish airports, particularly during the summer season. Airlines have been increasing capacity and adding point-to-point routes to capture leisure demand and reduce reliance on larger hub airports.
Murcia Airport’s growth strategy has focused on strengthening both domestic and European connectivity. Volotea’s network from the airport now includes Spanish destinations such as Asturias, Barcelona and Bilbao, alongside international routes to Marseille, Lille and Venice.
The summer schedule is expected to support tourism flows in both directions, bringing international visitors to the Murcia region while offering local residents more direct travel options. Airlines and regional airports across Spain have been prioritising seasonal routes that align with peak holiday demand.
Fair Travel Promise
Volotea will use fuel market prices, from publicly available sources, seven days before departure as a reference and, if necessary, adjust ticket prices up or down accordingly. In the event of an increase, the airline will apply a surcharge up to €14 per passenger, per flight; conversely, if prices decrease, the company is committed to refunding customers the difference, up to the same maximum amount.
