Cartier opens a Chinese New Year pop-up in collaboration with China Duty Free Group at CDF Sanya International Duty-Free Shopping Complex, welcoming travelers to a limited-time retail experience running from February 12 to 25.
The pop-up is located in Block A, Atrium and blends tropical design elements inspired by Hainan with Cartier’s signature visual codes and traditional Chinese festive motifs.
The immersive space features lush greenery, bold red accents and the Maison’s iconic panther as its central symbol, creating a setting focused on renewal, celebration and craftsmanship. Visits to the pop-up are available by appointment only, with curated experiences designed to engage travelers beyond traditional duty-free shopping.
One of the key interactive elements allows visitors to create xiāngn?ng, or fragrant blessing sachets, inspired by Li brocade, a traditional textile closely linked to Hainan’s cultural heritage. The sachets are scented with notes evoking island gardens and sea breezes, connecting the craftsmanship experience with the destination’s natural environment.
Adjacent to the pop-up, the Cartier boutique showcases a curated range of the brand’s jewelry, timepieces, fragrances and leather goods, allowing visitors to continue their exploration of the Maison’s collections within the same retail complex.
“Together with China Duty Free Group, we have re-imagined a space where this cherished celebration and Cartier’s timeless elegance create truly memorable encounters. Strong visitor turnout and active client engagement testify to our partnership’s success in elevating the traveler’s journey through authentic, and meaningful moments during this special time of the year,” said Raymond Chew, Managing Director at Cartier Hainan.
China Duty Free Group said the collaboration reflects its broader strategy to enhance experiential retail within Hainan’s rapidly expanding travel shopping sector.
“Cartier’s Chinese New Year pop-up at CDF Sanya International Duty-Free Shopping Complex reinforces our commitment to deliver unparalleled shopping experiences for travelers. We believe this collaboration further elevates Hainan’s position as a leading travel retail destination, and we look forward to a continued successful partnership with Cartier,” said Michelle Sun, Vice President and Head of Product Merchant Department at China Duty Free Group.
Hainan has emerged as one of Asia’s fastest-growing duty-free markets, supported by government policies aimed at boosting domestic tourism and luxury consumption. The Sanya complex has become a central hub for premium global brands seeking to connect with Chinese travelers through immersive and destination-driven retail formats.
Seasonal pop-ups and limited-time brand activations have increasingly become a core strategy for travel retailers, offering visitors exclusive experiences while driving footfall and engagement during peak holiday periods such as Chinese New Year.
The Cartier pop-up remains open through February 25, positioning the luxury house at the heart of Hainan’s festive travel retail surge and reinforcing the growing role of experiential shopping within China’s duty-free tourism economy.
