Spain has emerged as one of the most accessible Schengen destinations for Turkish travellers in 2026, according to recent visa approval data and travel industry assessments that highlight where applicants from Türkiye are facing fewer problems during the visa process.
The latest figures and market analysis point to Spain, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden as among the countries offering relatively smoother visa procedures or higher approval rates for Turkish citizens.
The findings come as demand for European holidays continues to rise in Türkiye ahead of the busy summer season. Travel agencies and visa consultants say appointment availability, rejection rates and processing speed have become major deciding factors for Turkish travellers when selecting destinations.
Spain has gained particular attention due to its comparatively stable approval rates and growing tourism ties with Türkiye. Industry observers say Spanish consulates have maintained more predictable processing times than some northern European countries, helping applicants avoid lengthy delays during peak travel periods.
Greece also remains one of the most popular options for Turkish tourists, partly because of its proximity and island tourism links across the Aegean. The continuation of special visa-on-arrival schemes for selected Greek islands has further strengthened demand from Turkish holidaymakers, especially during summer.
Under the temporary island visa programme supported by the European Union, thousands of Turkish visitors have been able to travel to islands such as Rhodes, Kos, Lesbos and Samos through simplified procedures. Tourism officials say the programme has significantly boosted short-break travel between the two countries.
Italy has also become increasingly attractive for Turkish applicants after expanding appointment capacity before the tourism season. Visa agencies report that Italian consulates have handled high application volumes more efficiently compared with previous years.
Meanwhile, Hungary has developed a reputation for relatively quick processing times, particularly for applicants with complete documentation and prior travel history. The country continues to attract Turkish business travellers and tourists seeking faster appointment availability.
The Netherlands remains popular among both corporate and leisure travellers due to flexible application procedures and strong flight connections from Turkish cities. Travel consultants say Dutch visa centres have improved document processing consistency in recent months.
Germany, which receives one of the highest numbers of visa applications from Türkiye every year, continues to approve a large share of applications despite stricter documentation checks. Experts note that applicants who follow appointment rules carefully and provide complete financial and travel records generally achieve better outcomes.
Although Sweden experienced higher rejection rates in previous years, travel analysts describe it as one of the more stable Nordic options in 2026, especially for repeat travellers and family visit applications.
Schengen visa demand from Türkiye has climbed sharply over the past two years. European Union figures show that consulates in Türkiye processed more than 1.17 million Schengen visa applications in 2024, marking one of the highest application totals on record.
At the same time, visa rejection rates and appointment shortages have become increasingly controversial in Türkiye. Turkish travellers, students and businesspeople have frequently complained about long waiting times, difficulty securing appointments and rising application costs.
Industry groups estimate that Turkish citizens spend tens of millions of euros annually on Schengen visa fees, service charges and document preparation costs, including unsuccessful applications.
The Schengen Area currently allows passport-free movement across most European Union countries and several neighbouring states under a single visa system. However, approval rates and appointment conditions vary significantly between member countries depending on staffing levels, seasonal demand and local consular policies.
Travel experts say choosing the right country for a first application has become increasingly important for Turkish citizens planning European holidays. Southern European destinations, especially Spain, Greece and Italy, are now widely viewed as more practical entry points for travellers seeking fewer complications during the application process.
Despite positive approval trends in some countries, visa specialists warn that no Schengen destination guarantees approval. Applicants are still advised to submit strong financial evidence, confirmed accommodation details, valid travel insurance and clear return plans when applying.
