Mama Shelter makes its Asian debut in Singapore’s Somerset District this September, introducing the city to its playful blend of design, dining, and nightlife. The Paris-born brand, now part of Ennismore under Accor, has expanded to 20 locations worldwide, but this is its first foray into Asia. Situated on Killiney Road, just a short walk from Somerset MRT, the 115-room property promises to be as much a social hub as a place to stay.
A New Energy for Singapore’s Hotel Scene
Co-founder Serge Trigano describes the Singapore opening as “a new chapter in the Mama story,” bringing a community-focused hospitality style that defies standard luxury or budget labels. At Mama Shelter Singapore, the hotel room is only part of the experience. From the moment guests step inside, they’re immersed in a swirl of music, design, and activity. The open-plan lobby, restaurant, and island bar double as spaces for conversation, arcade games, pet-friendly tables, and live performances.
The property’s programming is designed to reflect Singapore’s creative pulse. Rooftop sundowners, family brunches, late-night DJ sets, and pop-up events create a rhythm that blends guests with locals. Here, entertainment is not background—it’s the heartbeat of the stay.
Design That Tells a Story
Long-time collaborators Dion & Arles have infused the interiors with cultural references and playful details. Neon signs, colourful murals, and eclectic furnishings create an atmosphere where “good taste” and “bad taste” blur into joyful expression. Peranakan influences run throughout, from wedding-dress-inspired carpets in the rooms to vibrant rooftop tiles. Peacocks appear in soft furnishings, while bamboo-shaped furniture legs, wooden beads, and turned wood accents add layers of texture.
The rooftop is imagined as a tropical clearing, with mosaic-tiled pools, lush greenery, and organic-shaped seating. Nearly half of the rooms feature private terraces—a first for the brand. A hand-painted ceiling mural by Parisian street artist Beniloys weaves together maritime motifs, multicultural patterns, and Singapore’s “Garden City” identity across multiple floors.
Dining as the Main Event
Mama Shelter Singapore puts as much emphasis on its restaurants as its rooms. On the ground floor, Mama Restaurant and Island Bar serve an all-day brasserie menu by Executive Chef Eugene Chan, known for his work at Panamericana. The dishes combine local ingredients with international favourites, while drinks by acclaimed bartender Hazel Long mix creativity with Singaporean flavours.
Sunday brunches are a highlight, featuring cold cuts, cheeses, fresh salads, roast joints, pastas, and indulgent desserts. Upstairs, Mama Rooftop Bar & Restaurant offers Mediterranean coastal plates, artisanal pizzas, and spritz jugs with skyline views. One of the rooftop pools doubles as a stage for DJ sets, ensuring the vibe is as lively as the menu.
Rooms with Character
The 115 guest rooms balance industrial concrete with warm woven textiles and playful details, such as Bugs Bunny masks and Peranakan-patterned carpets. The brand’s first-ever bunk room debuts here, perfect for groups and families. All rooms feature five-star bedding, soundproofing, large screens with on-demand films, and amenities from Australian brand Ink & Water, known for its clean, cruelty-free formulations.
For those wanting a memento, the Mama Shop sells signature T-shirts, caps, tote bags, and fragrances, also available online.
In the Heart of Somerset
Positioned between Orchard Road and the emerging lifestyle hub of New Bahru, Mama Shelter Singapore is ideally placed for shopping, dining, and cultural exploration. COO Cédric Gobilliard notes that the brand’s arrival was “obvious” in a city that thrives on creativity and culinary culture. General Manager Xavier Pougnard leads the team, aiming to create a fun, inclusive atmosphere with high service standards.
To celebrate the opening, rooms start from $190++ per night with breakfast for two, valid for bookings before 31 August and stays from 23 September 2025 to 28 February 2026.
