Mama Shelter has opened its first hotel in Switzerland with the launch of Mama Zurich, introducing 178 rooms, a rooftop garden, and a full event floor in the city’s Oerlikon district.
The property marks the 19th hotel in the Mama Shelter portfolio and the first in Switzerland, blending Swiss cultural influences with the brand’s lifestyle-focused hospitality model.
The opening reinforces Mama Shelter’s strategy of creating hybrid spaces for both locals and international travelers. Mama Zurich offers meeting and event facilities, dining venues, creative work areas, and leisure amenities, positioning itself as a multifunctional hub that extends beyond conventional hotel operations. The project also highlights Zurich’s growing appeal as a lifestyle destination for global travelers.
The hotel features an event floor dedicated to private functions, three Ateliers that can host up to 200 guests, and four Studios for smaller meetings. A co-working area called Mama Creates offers laid-back office space, while a breakroom with a carousel adds a playful touch to the design. Fitness facilities are also available with a gym for guests.
Food and beverage options include the signature Mama restaurant, serving traditional and international cuisine, and Mama’s Garden, a rooftop space designed for social gatherings with views over Zurich. The design of Mama Zurich draws inspiration from Swiss traditions, watchmaking, chocolate, and modernist architecture, including references to Le Corbusier. Interiors are vibrant, with eclectic patterns and playful design details in line with the brand’s identity.
Mama Shelter, part of Ennismore, has expanded its global footprint steadily since its founding in 2008.
