New Anantara Resort Coming to Sanya by 2027

A brand-new Anantara resort is set to rise along the scenic shores of Clear Water Bay on China’s southern Hainan Island, with a grand opening planned for October 2027.

Announced by global hospitality group Minor Hotels, the upcoming Anantara Clear Water Bay Sanya Resort will offer travelers a luxurious beachfront escape just 35 kilometers from Sanya’s city center, blending natural beauty, cultural experiences, and Thai-inspired service.

A New Chapter for Hainan’s Coastal Tourism

Located in Lingshui Li Autonomous County on the southeastern tip of Hainan, the resort will span a prime stretch of one of the world’s three ‘Singing Beaches’—named for the distinctive sounds made by its ultra-fine white sands. The area’s tropical climate and year-round sunshine have long attracted domestic tourists, but the arrival of the Anantara brand signals a growing appeal for international travelers seeking a tranquil yet immersive experience in China’s coastal south.

Developed through a joint venture between Minor Hotels and Funyard Minor, in collaboration with Chongqing Yuanchu Luquan Cultural Tourism Group, the resort is part of a broader strategy to expand premium hospitality in the region. Hainan’s natural gems—like Fenjiezhou Island’s clear waters, Nanwan Monkey Island’s wildlife, and Qingshui Bay’s sun-drenched sands—make it a rising destination for those looking to explore China beyond its major cities.

Beachfront Bliss and Cultural Touchpoints

The upcoming Anantara resort will feature 90 rooms and suites, ranging from 60 to 240 square meters, tailored for leisure travelers, families, and couples. Guests can expect a full menu of amenities, including a signature Anantara Spa and wellness center, outdoor pool, entertainment hub, and a range of curated experiences rooted in local traditions.

Dining will be a central focus, with specialty restaurants and an all-day venue offering both international dishes and regional flavors. The resort will also house a 400-square-meter banquet hall and a 350-square-meter outdoor event lawn—ideal for weddings, retreats, and private functions framed by coastal scenery.

What sets this project apart is its dedication to local culture. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with the island’s Li heritage through hands-on experiences like bamboo weaving, traditional music, and local festivals. The development aims to showcase Hainan not just as a tropical retreat, but as a destination deeply connected to its indigenous roots and natural surroundings.

Expanding the Anantara Footprint in China

The Sanya project reflects Minor Hotels’ growing presence in the Chinese market. With existing Anantara properties in Guiyang and Xishuangbanna, and more resorts on the way—including in Chengdu’s Xiling Snow Mountain and Thousand Island Lake—the brand is aiming to grow its China portfolio to 15 properties within three years.

Eddy Tiftik, Vice President of Development for Greater China at Minor Hotels, called the project “a significant expansion” of the Anantara brand and a step forward in supporting Hainan’s sustainable tourism goals. Mr. Liu Yuanchu, Chairman of Chongqing Yuanchu Luquan Cultural Tourism Group, emphasized the synergy between local resources and international hospitality, pointing to nearby marinas, golf courses, and fishing villages as added draws for future guests.

Sanya’s Rising Status as a Global Travel Hub

Often dubbed the “Hawaii of China,” Sanya is gaining traction among global travelers for its beach resorts, tropical ambiance, and growing number of luxury accommodations. The opening of Anantara Clear Water Bay Sanya Resort will further position the region as a high-end destination that doesn’t compromise on authenticity or sustainability.

With its stunning natural location, thoughtfully designed spaces, and a cultural heart, the upcoming Anantara resort at Clear Water Bay is shaping up to be more than just a place to stay—it’s a destination in itself. Come 2027, guests will be able to dip their toes in Hainan’s famous singing sands while enjoying the comfort and character Anantara is known for around the world.
