Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas has appointed Hervé Duboscq as General Manager, strengthening the luxury resort’s leadership team as it continues to expand its position in Malaysia’s high-end hospitality market.
The appointment brings more than 30 years of international hospitality experience to the award-winning beachfront resort on Malaysia’s southeast coast. Duboscq joins the property after most recently serving as General Manager of Shangri-La Colombo in Sri Lanka and following senior leadership roles across Asia, the Middle East and the Indian Ocean.
A native of France, Duboscq began his hospitality career with leading international hotel brands, including Starwood, before spending more than 14 years with Shangri-La. During his career, he has managed resorts and hotels in Oman, Singapore, Indonesia, the Maldives and New Caledonia.
He is known for building strong service cultures, improving operational performance and delivering guest experiences designed to meet the expectations of international luxury travellers.
At Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas, Duboscq will focus on strengthening the resort’s reputation as one of Malaysia’s leading coastal destinations. The resort said his approach combines Anantara’s guest-focused philosophy with a commitment to creating authentic experiences that connect visitors with local culture and the natural environment.
Nicholas Smith, Vice President of Operations, Asia, Minor Hotels, said: “Hervé’s appointment reflects our commitment to placing experienced, culturally attuned leaders at the helm of our most distinctive resorts. We are confident he will further strengthen the resort’s position within Desaru Coast and elevate its appeal as a leading coastal destination in Malaysia.”
Duboscq said: “Joining Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity. From its unspoiled coastline to the genuine warmth of its people, this destination captures what makes hospitality meaningful. I look forward to working with the team to create experiences that feel personal, purposeful and memorable, while building on the resort’s strong foundation.”
The leadership appointment comes as Anantara Desaru Coast continues to receive industry recognition for its luxury offering. The resort recently secured the title of Best Resort in Malaysia in the DestinAsian Readers’ Choice Awards 2026 and received top honours in the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2026.
Among those awards were Best Beach, Island + Upcountry Resorts – Malaysia and Best Hotel Pools – Malaysia, reinforcing the resort’s position among the country’s most recognised luxury hospitality properties.
Located along a stretch of coastline known for its beaches and nature reserves, Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas has become a key player in Malaysia’s luxury tourism sector. The property combines beachfront accommodation, wellness experiences, destination dining and curated cultural activities aimed at both domestic and international travellers.
The resort said Duboscq’s leadership will support its continued evolution through immersive guest experiences that celebrate Malaysia’s cultural heritage and natural beauty while maintaining the standards expected of a global luxury hospitality brand.
His appointment also reflects a broader trend across the luxury hotel sector, where experienced international executives are increasingly being tasked with strengthening destination-led experiences and deepening connections between travellers and local communities.
With a new general manager in place and a growing list of industry accolades, Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas is positioning itself for its next phase of growth in one of Southeast Asia’s most competitive luxury travel markets.
