Radisson Hotel Group Expands with New Openings in Africa

Radisson Hotel Group expands with new openings in Africa, solidifying its leadership in the continent’s hospitality sector.

According to W Hospitality Group’s 2024 “From Pipeline to Reality” report, Radisson Hotel Group achieved the most hotel openings across Africa within the past year. This strong performance continues into 2025, with major announcements including a market debut in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and further expansion in Central Africa.

New Market Entries in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The group’s expansion into the DRC includes two new signings: Radisson Blu Hotel, Kinshasa and Radisson Hotel Lubumbashi. These landmark properties mark a significant move into untapped markets with strong tourism and business potential.

Radisson Blu Hotel, Kinshasa is scheduled to open in late 2026. Located on Boulevard Colonel Tshatshi in the Gombe district—Kinshasa’s primary residential and business area—the hotel will offer 110 rooms, including suites and a Presidential Suite. Guests can look forward to a Lobby Bar, All-Day Dining Restaurant, and Pool Bar, along with wellness facilities such as a gym, massage rooms, and an outdoor pool. With its prime location near N’djili International Airport and central train stations, the hotel will cater to both business and leisure travelers.

Radisson Hotel Lubumbashi, opening mid-2027, will be located on Revolution Road Avenue in Lubumbashi, the DRC’s second-largest city. The hotel will feature 97 guest rooms, including junior suites and a Presidential Suite. Dining options include a Lobby Bar, All-Day Restaurant, and a Rooftop Bar & Grill offering panoramic city views. Additional amenities include meeting rooms, a gym, and a swimming pool. Its proximity to Kipopo Lake and local landmarks makes it ideal for a range of travelers.

Fast Openings and Strategic Conversions

Over the past 15 months, Radisson Hotel Group signed 11 new hotels and opened 7, adding over 2,000 signed and 1,500 opened rooms to its portfolio—1,000 of which came through conversions. These efforts have expanded the Group’s footprint to 100 hotels in more than 30 African countries.

In Guinea, Radisson marked a milestone with the rapid opening of Radisson Blu Hotel, Conakry, just three months after its signing. Situated in the Kipé neighborhood, this beachfront hotel features 282 rooms and suites with ocean views, positioning it as a key hub for both business and leisure travel in West Africa.

In Mauritius, the Group enhanced its Indian Ocean portfolio with Crystals Beach Resort Belle Mare, a Radisson Individuals member. The 234-room resort, located on the island’s east coast, offers family-friendly services and stunning lagoon views—catering to a broad range of travelers from honeymooners to family vacationers.

Cameroon and Beyond: Strengthening Central Africa

In Cameroon, Radisson Hotel Group is reinforcing its commitment with the signing of Radisson Blu Hotel & Apartments, Yaoundé. Scheduled to open by the end of 2026, this 150-room property will be located in the capital’s central business district. The hotel will offer a wide range of amenities including multiple dining venues, a rooftop pool, spa, gym, and 1,350 m² of flexible meeting and events space.

This move also supports the Group’s broader strategy in Cameroon, where growth opportunities are being explored in Douala and beyond.

Targeted Growth in Key African Markets

In addition to its focus on Central Africa, Radisson Hotel Group is investing in long-term development in strategic regions:

  • Morocco: Targeting 30 hotels by 2030, building on an already strong pipeline.
  • South Africa: Doubling its current footprint to reach 25 hotels by 2030.
  • Nigeria: Strengthening its West Africa presence with multiple new developments.

Elie Younes, Executive Vice President & Global Chief Development Officer, stated that while geographical diversification remains a priority, consolidating in high-performing markets such as Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa will drive the Group’s next phase of growth.

With a growing number of hotel conversions and new builds, Radisson Hotel Group is well-positioned to lead Africa’s evolving hospitality industry, delivering tailored experiences across diverse markets while maintaining a strong focus on local partnerships and social impact.
