Aeroflot to Add Weekly Flights to Seychelles, Aiming to Boost Russian Tourism

Russia’s national airline, Aeroflot, has announced plans to increase its flight frequency to Seychelles starting from October 16. The airline aims to solidify Russia’s position among the top three countries contributing to Seychelles’ tourism.

Aeroflot will operate a third weekly flight linking Moscow directly to Seychelles, complementing its existing flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The additional flight will run on Mondays. Each direct flight from Russia to Seychelles takes approximately 12 hours.

Sherin Francis, the Principal Secretary for Tourism in Seychelles, expressed confidence in the strategic significance of the move. “We are confident that by enhancing connectivity, we can significantly improve our market performance, as Russia holds strategic importance for our business,” said Francis. “Additionally, Russia has demonstrated the potential for increased tourism earnings. We anticipate that increased frequency will play a crucial role in achieving these objectives.”

According to data, Russia is currently the third-largest contributor to Seychelles’ tourism, trailing behind Germany and France. Between January 1 and August 20 this year, Seychelles welcomed 25,546 Russian visitors, marking a 39% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Aeroflot resumed its scheduled direct flights to Seychelles in October 2022, and the latest increase in flight frequency is expected to further bolster the tourism connection between the two nations.
