Southwest Airlines Boosts Routes in Las Vegas, Orlando, and San Diego for Summer 2026

Southwest Airlines has released its summer 2026 flight schedule, announcing expanded operations in key U.S. leisure markets including Las Vegas, Orlando, and San Diego. The Dallas-based carrier is also introducing its first-ever service to Anchorage, Alaska, beginning May 15, 2026, as part of a broad network enhancement for next summer.

The schedule, now open for booking through August 3, 2026, features increased flight frequencies on major domestic routes and new international connections. Southwest said the expansion reflects passenger demand trends and aims to offer travelers more flexibility and destination options ahead of the peak travel season.

Expanded Service in Core U.S. Markets

“In designing our summer 2026 schedule, we examined industry trends and identified locations – like Las Vegas, Orlando, and San Diego – where we are able to provide Customers more choices when they’re booking travel,” said Adam Decaire, Senior Vice President of Network Planning and Network Operations Control at Southwest Airlines. “Additionally, we’re boosting service in locations where we’ve always had a strong presence to offer Customers even more service than ever before in those cities.”

In Las Vegas, where Southwest offers nonstop service to 22 of the top 25 U.S. travel markets, the airline will increase frequencies on eight domestic routes. New and expanded routes include service to Nashville, Burbank, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Orlando, New Orleans, Reno, and Tampa. The carrier will also launch its first international service from Las Vegas with nonstop flights to Cancun, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, beginning June 4, 2026.

Southwest’s largest Florida operation in Orlando will grow year over year with additional flights on 11 routes, expanding service to 63 destinations. The Orlando network increases include Austin, Nashville, Baltimore, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Louisville, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The additional service is expected to strengthen connectivity through Orlando International Airport, which has become one of Southwest’s busiest hubs.

Record Operations in San Diego and New Anchorage Flights

With the opening of the new Terminal 1 at San Diego International Airport, Southwest plans to operate an all-time high of 134 trips on peak days and 43 destinations from the city. The schedule includes a new nonstop route between San Diego and Boston launching June 4, 2026, and increased service on the San Diego–San Francisco route to eight daily flights. These enhancements solidify San Diego as one of Southwest’s most significant West Coast bases.

Southwest is also expanding northward with its inaugural entry into Alaska. Beginning May 15, 2026, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport will become the 122nd airport in the carrier’s network. The airline will operate daily summer flights connecting Anchorage with Denver and Las Vegas, both key gateways for connecting travel across the U.S. and beyond. The addition marks a notable expansion into a new state and destination for the carrier’s loyal customer base.

The summer 2026 schedule also features network growth in Austin, Texas, with a new daily route to Cincinnati and the return of seasonal service to Seattle. Increased frequencies between Austin and Indianapolis, as well as San Francisco, further build on Southwest’s long-standing operations at Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

Fleet, Cabin Upgrades, and Loyalty Enhancements

Southwest’s summer 2026 schedule coincides with updates to the airline’s onboard experience and loyalty offerings. The carrier is gradually introducing assigned and premium seating across its Boeing 737-8 aircraft, along with in-seat power and free Wi-Fi for Rapid Rewards® Members provided through a partnership with T-Mobile®. These upgrades form part of the airline’s broader modernization effort to improve passenger comfort and connectivity.

Travelers enrolled in the Rapid Rewards® program can earn points through flying or partner spending and redeem them for flights, upgrades, or new routes introduced in 2026. The airline is also encouraging members to take advantage of up to 40% savings on purchased points, designed to help frequent flyers reach rewards status faster.

Southwest’s redesigned summer 2026 network underscores its strategy of strengthening operations in leisure-driven markets while expanding access to new destinations. By increasing intra-California frequencies, restoring key business routes, and entering Alaska for the first time, the airline aims to capture both vacation and business demand across North America.

“We’re boosting service in locations where Southwest has always had a strong presence while opening new opportunities for our Customers to explore,” said Adam Decaire. The carrier emphasized that its expanded schedule, combined with cabin upgrades and loyalty incentives, will position it to compete effectively as travel demand remains strong into 2026.
