Wizz Air has unveiled a wide-ranging expansion of its European network ahead of the Summer 2026 season, announcing a series of new routes linking Spain, Italy, Bulgaria and Albania while strengthening connectivity across the Mediterranean and Central and Eastern Europe.
In Spain, the airline continues to grow its footprint with two new international services. From 29 March 2026, Wizz Air will launch a twice-weekly direct route between Santander and Tirana, operating on Thursdays and Sundays, opening a new link between northern Spain and Albania. From 9 June 2026, the carrier will also introduce a three-weekly service between Menorca and Budapest, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, further expanding Spain’s connections with Central Europe. As part of the same growth strategy, Wizz Air will increase frequencies between Barcelona and Budapest to up to 16 flights per week, while Málaga–Budapest services will rise to up to seven weekly flights.
The Santander–Tirana connection also forms part of Wizz Air Albania’s Summer 2026 expansion from Tirana International Airport. In addition to Santander, the airline will launch a new route to Kalamata, Greece, operating twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 31 March 2026. Kalamata becomes a new station for the airline in Greece, strengthening leisure connectivity between Albania and southern Europe. From Albania, Wizz Air now operates more than 60 routes across 20 countries, reflecting continued demand for affordable leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives travel.
Bulgaria is also set to benefit from new summer capacity. Wizz Air will introduce three new direct routes: Sofia–Santander, starting 31 March 2026 with twice-weekly flights, Sofia–Corfu, launching from 7 June with twice-weekly services, and Varna–Katowice, commencing on 7 June, also operating twice weekly. The new routes expand Bulgaria’s links with Spain, Greece and Poland, supporting inbound tourism and strengthening regional connectivity. All services will be operated using Airbus A321neo aircraft, which offer improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
In Italy, Wizz Air continues to reinforce its presence at key airports. From 11 May 2026, the airline will launch a new four-weekly route between Milan Malpensa and Bilbao, adding another Spanish destination to its growing network from Lombardy and enhancing business and leisure connectivity with the Basque Country. Tickets are already on sale with competitive introductory fares.
Further south, Wizz Air will open a new connection between Naples and Palma de Mallorca from 12 May 2026. The route will operate three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, targeting strong leisure demand between southern Italy and the Balearic Islands. The Naples base continues to play a strategic role in the carrier’s Italian network, supporting both Mediterranean leisure traffic and eastern European connectivity.
Across the network, the airline continues to expand capacity and frequencies, supported by ongoing fleet growth and the deployment of Airbus A321neo aircraft. Wizz Air reports strong operational performance across its markets, with high completion rates and rising passenger volumes in Spain, Italy, Bulgaria and Albania during 2025.
The latest announcements underline Wizz Air’s strategy to strengthen secondary city connectivity, stimulate inbound tourism and provide affordable travel options across Southern, Western and Central Europe as airlines prepare for a busy Summer 2026 season.
