But experts warn that the reality can be more complicated — and far riskier — than these posts suggest.
Dr. Óscar Castro Reino, president of Spain’s General Council of Dentists, advises caution when considering such services. He notes that many of these procedures are performed in just a few hours, leaving little time for thorough diagnosis or personalized treatment planning. “Every treatment carries risks, and if the dental health of each person is not properly evaluated, complications can arise in the short or long term, such as tooth sensitivity, gum problems, or even tooth loss,” he warns. “Traveling abroad for a medical procedure is not an adventure; it’s a gamble with your health.”
Risks Beyond the Price Tag
Part of the concern lies in regulatory differences. In Spain, dental clinics operate under strict national regulations, health inspections, and professional licensing requirements. These safeguards help ensure patient safety and treatment quality. According to Dr. Castro, mixing leisure travel with medical procedures can be a recipe for regret. “Any dental or medical treatment must be carried out with all safety guarantees, in an appropriate healthcare facility, and by a licensed professional,” he emphasizes. The time constraints of a short holiday make it harder to provide follow-up care, address unexpected complications, or ensure the procedure is suited to the individual patient’s needs.

Before booking a dental tourism package to Morocco — or any other country — travelers should research the clinic thoroughly, confirm the credentials of the practitioners, and understand the scope of aftercare available once they return home. They should also weigh the potential cost of corrective work should anything go wrong.
