Valencia Airport Breaks Record with 1M+ Monthly Travelers

Valencia Airport passenger numbers reached an all-time high in April 2025, with over one million travelers passing through the Manises terminal for the first time in a single month.

According to data released by Aena, the Spanish airport authority, the airport registered 1,039,789 passengers in April—marking a 10% increase compared to the same month in 2024.

International Travel Drives Growth

International routes continue to be the driving force behind Valencia Airport’s sharp growth trajectory. In April alone, 780,211 travelers, or nearly three-quarters of the total passenger volume, were flying to or from destinations outside Spain. That figure represents a 13.4% increase over the same period last year.

Italy led the international rankings, with 163,629 passengers using Valencia Airport for travel between the two countries. This was bolstered by the inclusion of Pescara as a new route, marking its first full month of operations in the summer schedule. Other top international connections included:

CountryPassengers (April 2025)
Italy163,629
Germany89,309
France86,375
Netherlands80,227
United Kingdom79,495

Despite a traditionally strong April for domestic Spanish travel—thanks in part to the Easter holiday period—domestic traffic at Valencia saw only a slight increase. A total of 256,899 passengers traveled on routes within Spain, up just 0.7% from April 2024. This moderate growth reflects Easter having occurred in March this year, likely shifting peak domestic traffic earlier in the season.

Flight Operations Also See Steady Climb

Valencia Airport handled 8,076 flights during April, representing a 7% increase compared to the same month last year. This contributes to an overall total of 28,168 flight operations in the first four months of 2025—an 11.8% year-on-year rise.

This increase in aircraft movement further underscores the airport’s role as a key transportation hub in Spain’s Mediterranean region. The consistent growth in both passenger volume and flight traffic points to a larger trend: the growing importance of Valencia as a point of departure and arrival for European travel.

3.5 Million Travelers Already in 2025

With nearly 3.5 million passengers having used Valencia Airport so far in 2025, the airport has already surpassed last year’s cumulative count for the same period by approximately 400,000 travelers. That translates to a 13% year-over-year increase—a clear indicator of Valencia’s rising appeal among international and domestic travelers alike.

Behind these numbers is a combination of increased airline capacity, seasonal route additions, and greater demand from inbound tourism markets. As the summer high season approaches, continued growth is expected, especially from destinations in Europe’s top outbound travel markets.

Future Expansion Plans in Sight

As passenger numbers surge, Valencia Airport is awaiting further details about the upcoming expansion of its terminal facilities. The project, which forms part of Spain’s next Airport Regulation Document (DORA) for 2027, is expected to include significant upgrades to Manises and Alicante-Elx airports. Though the approximate budget has been set at €400 million, specific plans and timelines have yet to be unveiled by Aena.

This expansion is widely seen as necessary to support the airport’s sustained growth and to improve service for millions of travelers passing through the region each year. With record-breaking months now becoming a reality, Valencia is positioning itself not just as a gateway to the Mediterranean—but as a vital hub in European aviation.
