Germany Warns Against Travel to Venezuela

Germany’s Federal Foreign Office is advising against all travel to Venezuela, citing a worsening security situation, a US aviation warning and rising tensions in the Caribbean.

The advisory, published online, states that conditions in the country are unstable and could deteriorate with little notice, affecting the safety and mobility of foreign visitors.

The warning comes as US forces expand operations in the Caribbean targeting suspected drug-trafficking vessels, and after the US classified the Cartel de los Soles as a foreign terrorist organization. Venezuela rejects the designation, calling it a “ridiculous farce,” while airlines suspend some flights following a US airspace alert.

Heightened risks for travellers

Germany notes that roadblocks, police checkpoints and sudden movement restrictions may occur throughout Venezuela. The advisory warns that mobile networks and internet access could be limited, making it harder for visitors to seek help or reach airlines and embassies during emergencies.

The Foreign Office also highlights repeated arrests of German and EU citizens on suspicion of supporting terrorism, a development it says poses legal and safety risks to foreigners. It adds that consular assistance may be constrained if the situation worsens.

Air travel disruptions intensify

The US Federal Aviation Administration recently warned of potential dangers in Venezuelan airspace, prompting several airlines to halt flights to and from the country. Reduced connectivity leaves travellers facing cancellations or rerouted itineraries.

US President Donald Trump accuses President Nicolás Maduro of involvement in drug trafficking, drawing parallels to past narcotics-related interventions. Venezuela’s government denies the allegations, calling them an “infamous and despicable lie,” and accuses Washington of seeking regime change.

Germany’s warning signals a further decline in travel confidence as geopolitical pressure and security concerns reshape conditions for foreign visitors. Additional government advisories and airline decisions are expected to influence access to Venezuela in the coming weeks.
