IPW 2025 Highlights U.S. International Travel Comeback

IPW 2025 highlights U.S. international travel comeback with powerful numbers, bold ambitions, and a resounding message: the United States is ready to reclaim its position as a global travel leader. Held in Chicago from June 17–20, this year’s IPW hosted over 6,000 delegates from 70 countries, setting the tone for the next wave of international inbound tourism.

Backed by data from U.S. Travel and Rockport Analytics, projections show that IPW 2025 is expected to generate 10.9 million additional international visitors over the next three years. This influx is forecasted to bring in $26.1 billion in spending, support 63,000 U.S. jobs annually, and generate $3.3 billion in tax revenue.

U.S. Travel’s Strategic Call to Action

At the heart of this year’s message was a renewed focus on meeting modern travelers’ expectations. According to Geoff Freeman, President and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, while the U.S. remains a top destination, it has lost ground in recent years.

“The total direct spending value of the travel industry in the United States is $1.3 trillion every year, and almost $200 million of that comes from international visitors,” Freeman said. “Yet over the last decade, America has lost ground in the global travel market. To reclaim our share, we must deliver a stronger, more seamless experience.”

Seamless visa processes, improved entry experiences, and modernized airport infrastructure were highlighted as priorities. The goal: make the U.S. not just a bucket-list destination but also an easy one to access and navigate.

Chicago: The Beating Heart of IPW 2025

This year’s host city, Chicago, took full advantage of the international spotlight. The city’s tourism agency, Choose Chicago, curated events that highlighted local culture, creativity, and energy—from vibrant neighborhood showcases to behind-the-scenes tours of iconic venues.

Kristen Reynolds, President and CEO of Choose Chicago, celebrated the success: “It’s been an honor to partner with the U.S. Travel team to deliver a seamless, world-class event that showcases both Chicago and the U.S. We’re proud to have welcomed the world to our city that is Never Done and Never Outdone.”

The event reaffirmed Chicago’s status as a major international tourism hub. And with the energy of IPW fueling new interest, local officials expect continued growth in overseas visitation over the coming years.

100,000 Meetings, Countless Connections

IPW is best known for its unparalleled business matchmaking, and 2025 was no exception. More than 100,000 one-on-one appointments brought together U.S. suppliers—from state tourism offices to hotel groups and attractions—with international buyers and media. These interactions drive future bookings, marketing deals, and global exposure for American destinations.

The variety of American experiences showcased ranged from iconic landmarks like the Grand Canyon to lesser-known cultural trails, culinary hotspots, and small-town escapes. This diversity strengthens the overall appeal of the U.S. as a travel destination with something for everyone.

Looking Ahead: Fort Lauderdale Hosts IPW 2026

The momentum continues in 2026 when IPW heads south to Greater Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Visit Lauderdale will host the next edition of the event, with a focus on innovation, accessibility, and showcasing Florida’s unique coastal charm.

With each IPW, the U.S. Travel Association aims to push forward a united vision: restoring the nation’s global market share and creating a smoother, more appealing experience for international visitors. As global travel rebounds, events like IPW are essential in reestablishing trust, visibility, and economic strength through tourism.

The message from IPW 2025 was loud and clear—the United States is not only open for business but also ready to evolve, improve, and welcome the world once again.
