High in the Dolomites, in a village where cowbells still echo off the peaks and trails wind past wildflower meadows, a beloved mountain hotel has undergone a transformation. Aman Rosa Alpina, a name that now carries both heritage and global luxury, has opened its doors under full Aman management, marking a new era for a retreat that has drawn mountaineers, skiers and style-seekers for generations.
The official opening, announced Thursday, follows nearly a century of family stewardship and more than two years of careful renovation. With just 51 rooms and suites, including a newly designed Aman Suite and several interconnecting options for families, the reimagined property blends old-world craftsmanship with sleek, alpine minimalism. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the UNESCO-listed Dolomites, while wood-paneled interiors and stone-clad fireplaces bring warmth to the clean lines and muted tones.
In many ways, the story of Rosa Alpina is a story of continuity as much as change. Long run by the Pizzinini family, the hotel was a benchmark of hospitality in the Alta Badia region of northern Italy. Now, Aman—renowned for its low-key luxury and devotion to setting—has taken the helm, with the Pizzinini family still involved as partners and ambassadors.
“Rosa Alpina has always been about place,” Aman Group Chairman and CEO Vlad Doronin said in the announcement. “Now it is also about legacy, design, and the experience of peace.”
The architectural work was led by Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, the longtime Aman collaborator whose hand is visible in the deliberate restraint of the new design. Glass-enclosed fireplaces, textured plaster walls, and timber façades add a tactile richness, while the building’s form follows its surroundings—never overwhelming, always complementing.
At the heart of the new property is the spa, a 1,684-square-meter sanctuary that offers both modern treatments and traditional alpine therapies. A 20-meter outdoor infinity pool overlooks the valley below, and hydrotherapy facilities—including a Finnish sauna, Jacuzzi and cold plunge—complete the immersion. Signature offerings include the Alpine Muscle Relief Massage, tailored for guests returning from long ski runs or challenging hikes.
If wellness is one pillar of the hotel’s relaunch, food is another. Executive Chef Gianluca Salvato leads a collection of dining venues that aim to showcase the region’s natural bounty through a contemporary lens. Il Salotto, the new lounge and cocktail space, nods to the hotel’s former piano bar while providing guests with panoramic views and nightly music. The Grill offers artisanal pizzas and wood-fired meats, while Di Vino, a wine library, hosts private tastings and curated pairings. Akari, a Japanese shabu shabu restaurant, will debut this winter with a menu of rare sakes and alpine-influenced minimalism.
Guests can also expect seasonal programming that embraces the Dolomites year-round. In the warmer months, the hotel arranges guided hikes, mountain biking excursions and via ferrata climbs. Autumn brings crisp air and brilliant foliage. Come winter, the region transforms into a skier’s dream, with 1,200 kilometers of trails in the Dolomiti Superski area. The hotel’s Ski Butler service handles gear, transportation and tuning, while a private ski lounge ensures guests transition from slope to suite in comfort.
Children and teenagers aren’t forgotten. The hotel includes dedicated Kids and Teen Rooms designed for exploration and play, as well as three private cinema rooms for family movie nights after a day in the snow.
Founded in 1988, Aman has built a reputation for creating havens that combine minimalism with cultural immersion. With properties across 20 countries and ambitious lifestyle expansions—from skincare to interiors—the brand is now synonymous with a particular kind of luxury: silent, understated, and deeply personal. Aman Rosa Alpina joins this tradition with a firm sense of place and purpose.
For the Pizzinini family, this chapter is both a continuation and a celebration. “We remain committed to preserving the authenticity and spirit of the region,” they said in a joint statement. “The next chapter brings a global perspective, but the heart of Rosa Alpina remains rooted in the Dolomites.”
Aman Rosa Alpina is now open for reservations for both summer and winter seasons. Rates, availability and full offerings can be found at aman.com.
