American Airlines has unveiled a new Flagship® livery to mark its upcoming 100th anniversary, with the design set to debut in November on a Boeing 777-300 registered as N735AT.
The retro-inspired aircraft, named “Flagship DFW,” combines elements from the airline’s historic liveries with modern upgrades and will feature a refreshed interior as part of the carrier’s centennial celebrations.
The new design draws on American’s original Flagship® branding, first introduced in the 1930s, symbolizing the airline’s longstanding commitment to premium travel. The Boeing 777-300 aircraft will operate international routes to destinations such as Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom, reflecting American’s global network and continued investment in enhancing its passenger experience.
Historic Design with a Modern Touch
At the foundation of the special livery is American’s signature Silver Eagle® paint, which covers more than 1,600 aircraft across its mainline and regional fleet. The striking orange lightning bolt motif, a defining feature of the airline’s early design language, reappears nearly 90 years after its debut on the Douglas DC-3. The motif pays homage to the aircraft that first represented American’s entry into luxury air travel, now reimagined on one of its most advanced widebody jets.
“American has thoughtfully chosen a design that evokes our rich history while looking ahead to our next 100 years,” said Ron DeFeo, Chief Communications Officer. “Throughout American’s history, ‘Flagship®’ has always been recognized as our premium travel experience. Painting the original Flagship® design on our Flagship® aircraft is a powerful way to honor that legacy while embracing the future.”
Toward the rear of the aircraft, the roundel design featuring the eagle connecting the world highlights one of the most recognizable symbols from American’s past. This emblem underscores the airline’s expansive reach — now serving more than 350 destinations worldwide and operating more flights carrying more passengers than any other airline.
Flagship Experience and Cabin Enhancements
The centennial livery coincides with the ongoing refresh of American’s Boeing 777-300 fleet, which will include new Flagship Suite® seats and upgraded cabins across all travel classes. The refreshed interior will feature 70 Flagship Suite® seats and 44 Premium Economy seats, as the airline continues rolling out its latest onboard amenities.
The Flagship Suite® introduces privacy doors, wireless charging pads, and a chaise lounge-style seat with adjustable headrest support — marking the airline’s first fully enclosed business class product. Premium Economy passengers will benefit from new headrest wings, improved calf and footrests, and wireless charging — a first among U.S. carriers in this cabin. Main Cabin travelers will also see upgrades including 4K QLED screens, USB-C and AC power outlets, and enhanced seat comfort.
American Airlines’ renewed focus on the Flagship® experience extends to its premium lounges and long-haul international network. Since its introduction in the 1930s, the Flagship® brand has symbolized elevated service standards across transcontinental and global routes. The centennial year marks a return to this heritage with a blend of historical design and modern passenger comfort.
Beyond the aircraft itself, American is commemorating its centennial through its official Brand Store, featuring exclusive centennial-branded merchandise, vintage advertising prints, and historic imagery. The collection, designed for aviation enthusiasts and travelers alike, will expand throughout the anniversary year, offering more ways to celebrate the airline’s 100-year journey from its first flight in 1926 to its present-day global operations.
The new Flagship® livery serves as both a tribute to American’s legacy and a preview of its future, symbolizing a century of progress in design, technology, and customer experience as the airline prepares for its milestone celebration in 2026.
