Munich Airport’s Air Traffic to Asia Skyrockets, Exceeding Pre-Pandemic Levels

The aviation industry is witnessing a remarkable resurgence, as evidenced by Munich Airport’s air traffic to Asia, which has now surpassed pre-pandemic figures. Starting March 31, 2024, the summer flight schedule at Munich Airport is set to make history with record numbers of flights to Asia. The airport is gearing up to accommodate 107 weekly flights to 14 destinations across ten countries in East and South Asia, operated by nine airlines. This marks a significant increase from the 2019 summer schedule, where 101 flights were managed by five airlines to ten destinations in seven countries.

The expanded list of destinations from Munich includes major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing, Shanghai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Seoul, Tashkent, Dushanbe, Male, Taipei, Bangkok, and Singapore. This vast network is serviced by a range of airlines including Lufthansa, Air China, All Nippon Airways, BeOnd, EVA Airways, Singapore Airlines, Somon Air, Thai Airways, and Uzbekistan Airways. This development is not just a boon for travelers seeking to explore Asia’s diverse attractions, from bustling megacities to serene temples and beaches, but also a testament to the region’s economic prominence, attracting both tourists and business travelers alike.

Recognizing Asia’s role as a crucial global economic player, numerous Bavarian companies are leveraging these flights for strengthening business relations within the region. In response to the soaring demand, Lufthansa is upping the ante by deploying the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft, on the Delhi route starting April 1, 2024. Furthermore, the frequency of flights to Beijing will increase to a daily service from April, while Osaka will enjoy a boosted service of five weekly flights from April, escalating to daily flights from May. All Nippon Airways is also stepping up, increasing its Munich service from four to seven weekly flights beginning July 2.

This surge in flight connectivity between Munich and Asia is a positive indicator of the aviation industry’s robust recovery and Munich Airport’s pivotal role in connecting Europe with the dynamic and diverse Asian continent.
