Singapore-based Samanea Group has officially opened Samanea Wellness Resort, marking the launch of Cambodia’s first luxury wellness resort, set across 40 hectares of pristine natural landscape in the Cardamom Mountains of Pursat Province. The opening arrives as Cambodia continues to see a rebound in inbound travel, and it aims to capture demand for slower, nature-based escapes built around wellbeing.
The opening represents the Group’s latest destination-led wellness development and builds on the success of Samanea Beach Resort & Spa in Kep which is a charming seaside town with a rich colonial heritage. This beach resort opened in 2018 and has since established itself as a leading coastal retreat in Cambodia.
Samanea Wellness Resort is positioned to benefit from the ongoing recovery of tourism in Cambodia, which has welcomed approximately 6.7 million international visitors in recent years. Within this context, Pursat Province, known for its agricultural heritage and largely untouched natural environment, is emerging as a destination aligned with demand for slower, more intentional forms of travel.
Located in the Cardamom Mountains , a 2.5-million-hectare wilderness where over 85 percent of the forests remain untouched and sheltering more than 2,300 animal species, the resort responds to growing interest in eco-tourism and nature-based travel, offering a wellness-focused experience rooted in its surrounding landscape.
Samanea Wellness Resor’s is cradled by rivers, waterfalls, and rainforest—a landscape shaped by volcanic geology rich in minerals and sustained by some of the highest rainfall in Southeast Asia. The same forces that created rubies and sapphires in these mountains have also created an ecosystem of extraordinary healing power, where mineral-rich springs flow and the air itself carries the vitality of pristine nature.
The resort features 32 private villas, each designed with wellness and environmental responsibility in mind. Architectural and interior elements prioritise comfort and recovery, including the use of sustainably produced Getha mattresses selected to promote deep rest and physical regeneration.
Facilities at the resort include a fitness house, ozone pool, wellness sanctuary, signature restaurant, lounge, and an organic river farm that supports the property’s farm-to-table culinary approach.
Wellness programming focuses on restorative treatments and immersive, nature-based therapies designed for individuals, couples and groups. Experiences are structured to encourage reconnection with both body and mind, while remaining closely integrated with the surrounding natural environment.
The resort’s nutrition concept centres on mindful dining, highlighting authentic Khmer cuisine prepared using locally grown and foraged ingredients. This approach reinforces the connection between wellness, local culture and sustainable food systems.
Sustainability is embedded across the resort’s operations. Approximately 30% of the property’s energy needs are met by solar power, complemented by conservation initiatives, environmentally responsible practices, and the use of locally sourced, eco-friendly products. A 1% mandatory guest contribution supports community and environmental CSR projects.
Beyond the resort, guests have access to curated excursions including jungle trekking, eco-motorbike trails, village immersion experiences, boat fishing and guided wildlife encounters, such as the Siamese crocodile night watch. These activities are designed to deepen engagement with local ecosystems and cultural heritage.
In addition to leisure travel, Samanea Wellness Resort positions itself as a platform for meaningful interaction between guests, communities and the environment through agritourism experiences and community volunteering initiatives.
