Thailand is taking a significant step towards sustainability in its events industry with the introduction of a new carbon trading platform designed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector.
This new platform, named “Carbon Neutrality 4 All,” was unveiled during a soft launch in Bangkok, marking a milestone in the country’s efforts to achieve a net-zero carbon future.
The platform is the result of a collaboration between five key organizations: The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, The Central Group, The Ministry of Interior, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). These partners signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly drive the initiative, aiming to make sustainable events a reality in Thailand.
The platform is designed to meet the needs of enterprises wishing to trade carbon credits in medium and small batches. It allows event organizers to source high-quality carbon credits from verified carbon dioxide and methane reduction programs, contributing to the country’s broader environmental goals.
Sustainable Features for Event Organizers and Attendees
The “Carbon Neutrality 4 All” platform offers a range of tools to help event organizers calculate and offset their carbon emissions. One of its standout features is the CERO application, which facilitates carbon footprint calculation by connecting to the energy-control systems of event venues. Additionally, the platform integrates with an AI-driven mobile application for attendees, allowing them to track their carbon footprint from travel and food consumption, and engage in green activities during events.
Carbon credits traded on the platform are generated through household waste management projects supervised by the Ministry of Interior and certified by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO). This approach not only supports environmental sustainability but also generates revenue for local communities involved in these projects.
Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of TCEB, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “TCEB’s collaboration in the ‘Carbon Neutrality 4 All’ platform project is part of our strategies ‘Partnership for Business Success’ and ‘Go Sustainability’ for the Thai MICE industry. By using this platform, we can demonstrate how the Thai MICE industry is capable of reducing its environmental impact while generating positive economic and social outcomes for local communities.”
Aiming for a Sustainable Future in the MICE Industry
As the platform undergoes further testing and refinement, particularly among MICE entrepreneurs by the end of this year, it is expected to set a new standard for sustainable events in Thailand. The initiative is a key part of the country’s broader strategy to support carbon neutrality, offering SMEs and the MICE sector practical tools to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to environmental sustainability.
The launch of the “Carbon Neutrality 4 All” platform is a significant move towards making Thailand a leader in sustainable events, providing a model that could inspire similar initiatives across the region and beyond.
