Embratur is promoting Brazil’s image as a welcoming and sustainable tourism destination at the 9th International Diversity Conference in São Paulo. The agency is presenting its LGBTQIA+ tourism strategies, including initiatives under the Plano Brasis marketing plan and the Feel Brasil campaign.
The conference, which runs through Sept. 12, gathers businesses, government representatives, cultural leaders and tourism professionals to discuss diversity across business, culture, sports and travel. More than 6,000 participants, 140 partners and over 100 speakers are expected this year.
Embratur’s Role and Initiatives
Embratur is showcasing projects that align with its goal of positioning Brazil as an inclusive destination. The presentation includes the short film “Entre Sinais e Marés,” a fiction set on Ilha do Mel featuring deaf protagonists, produced through the agency’s “Brasil com S” program to promote national tourism via audiovisual storytelling. The film has received multiple awards and international recognition.
The agency is also supporting a press trip in Bahia from Sept. 13 to 18, organized with the Brazilian LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. Journalists and influencers from Europe and the Americas will experience attractions tied to diversity-focused tourism.
“The presence of Embratur in this event highlights the commitment of Brazil in promoting its cultural and natural diversity, consolidating itself as a protagonist in inclusive tourism,” said Marcelo Freixo, President of Embratur. “Tourism is a lever of economic development, but also civilizational. Brazil needs to reaffirm this agenda more and more. In the world we want to live in, there is no room for homophobia.”
Partnerships and Cooperation
Since 2023, Embratur has maintained a cooperation agreement with the Brazilian LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Tourism to strengthen international promotion and commercial positioning of Brazilian destinations. The chamber, a nonprofit organization, works to expand commercial ties, support entrepreneurship and promote socioeconomic and cultural development for the LGBT community.
Daniel Noble, Embratur’s Supervisor of Afrotourism, Diversity and Indigenous Peoples, leads the agency’s presentation at the conference. He is outlining the ongoing strategies and programs aimed at strengthening visibility and inclusion within the tourism sector.
Conference Program
The International Diversity Conference, held annually since 2017, focuses on building networks between buyers and suppliers while supporting inclusive economic development. The program includes debates on tourism, business, culture and sports, alongside networking sessions and business exchanges.
On Sept. 10, panels and business forums are scheduled to address current issues in LGBT tourism. On Sept. 11, Embratur will join companies engaged in diversity and inclusion programs to present solutions for fostering inclusive supply chains. On Sept. 12, sessions will focus on culture and sports, highlighting their role in the creative economy and job generation.
The event reaffirms Brazil’s effort to strengthen its international image as a leader in inclusive tourism, combining government initiatives, private sector partnerships and cultural promotion. Embratur’s participation is positioned as part of a long-term strategy to consolidate Brazil’s standing in global tourism markets.
