Turkish Airlines Places Record Boeing Order for Dreamliners and MAX Jets

Turkish Airlines has placed its largest-ever Boeing widebody order with a deal for up to 75 Dreamliners, alongside plans to purchase as many as 150 additional 737 MAX aircraft.

The announcement underscores the flag carrier’s fleet expansion ambitions. It builds on earlier news that the airline was in talks over what could become one of Boeing’s biggest aircraft transactions, linked to a high-level meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The order includes 35 Boeing 787-9s, 15 787-10s, and options for 25 more Dreamliners. Turkish Airlines also stated its intent to finalize an order for up to 150 737 MAX jets, which would represent its largest single-aisle purchase from Boeing. Together, the agreements could double the airline’s Boeing fleet and support its goal of operating 800 aircraft by 2033.

Details of the Boeing Agreement

Turkish Airlines currently operates more than 200 Boeing jets, including the 787-9, 777, 737 MAX, and 777 Freighter models. Adding the 787-10 will increase passenger and cargo capacity on high-demand long-haul routes while delivering improved fuel efficiency. The 787-10 offers features such as larger windows, lower cabin altitude, and technology to counter turbulence, designed to enhance passenger comfort on extended flights.

“This landmark agreement represents much more than a fleet growth. It is a reflection of our leadership in the industry as well as our dedication to innovation and operational excellence,” said Prof. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines. “The addition of these advanced Boeing aircraft to our fleet will not only enhance our operational capabilities but also become a significant element supporting Turkish Airlines’ 2033 Vision of expanding our fleet to 800 aircraft.”

The order is expected to support more than 123,000 U.S. jobs across Boeing’s supply chain. Boeing said the long-standing partnership with Türkiye’s aviation sector extends beyond commercial jets to include defense platforms and supply chain investment.

“We are honored that Turkish Airlines has once again chosen the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX to power its future growth,” said Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “As a proud partner to Türkiye and the Turkish aviation industry for 80 years, we look forward to continuing our support of Turkish Airlines as they expand operations and deliver exceptional experiences to their passengers.”

The agreement adds to Boeing’s more than 1,200 Dreamliner deliveries worldwide, with the type serving approximately 500,000 passengers daily. Turkish Airlines is among the global operators leveraging the 787 family’s range and efficiency to connect destinations across continents.

For Boeing, the order provides momentum in a competitive global market as carriers look to modernize fleets with more fuel-efficient aircraft. The inclusion of the 737 MAX, despite its past grounding, signals renewed confidence from Turkish Airlines in the single-aisle jet as it continues to capture demand for medium-haul capacity.

For Turkish Airlines, the deal strengthens its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing carriers with a network spanning more countries than any other airline. The 787-10 is expected to play a pivotal role on routes linking Istanbul with significant markets in the United States, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

The orders also align with the airline’s long-term 2033 Vision strategy, marking its 100th anniversary, which aims to expand capacity and fleet size significantly. The carrier has set its sights on reaching 800 aircraft within the next decade, supported by both widebody and single-aisle growth.

Boeing’s local presence in Türkiye includes offices in Ankara and Istanbul and $2 billion invested in supply chain development. The company said these efforts have created nearly 5,000 jobs in Türkiye and strengthened the integration of local aerospace companies into global production networks.

The record deal highlights both Turkish Airlines’ growth trajectory and Boeing’s ability to secure large-scale orders in a competitive market. For global travelers, the expansion promises more routes and capacity from Istanbul, further solidifying the city’s role as a central international aviation hub.
