American Airlines expands golf travel with new Scotland route

American Airlines is expanding travel options for golf fans with a new international route to Scotland and additional flights to Augusta, Georgia, ahead of the year’s first major golf tournament.

The airline launched its inaugural Airbus A321XLR flight on March 8 between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Edinburgh, Scotland, while also increasing services to Augusta Regional Airport between April 5 and 13. The expanded schedule is designed to help golfers and spectators reach some of the sport’s most iconic destinations.

New York to Edinburgh flight launches with new aircraft

The new route between New York and Edinburgh marks the debut of the Airbus A321XLR in American Airlines’ international network. The airline said it is the first U.S. carrier to introduce the aircraft and operate it on transcontinental routes as well as flights to and from Scotland’s capital.

The aircraft features 20 Flagship Suite seats, 12 Premium Economy seats and 123 redesigned Main Cabin seats. Passengers can also access high-speed Wi-Fi and complimentary seatback entertainment with Bluetooth connectivity during the transatlantic journey.

Edinburgh serves as a gateway to Scotland’s historic golf courses, including those along the country’s eastern coastline, widely regarded as the birthplace of the sport.

More flights added to Augusta for golf’s first major

American Airlines is also expanding service to Augusta Regional Airport for golf’s first major tournament of the year. Between April 5 and April 13, the airline will offer the most flights and seats of any carrier serving the airport.

The airline’s schedule to Augusta is 6% larger than last year, with up to 23 round-trip flights per day during the tournament week.

American is the only airline offering nonstop flights to Augusta from Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, Chicago, Philadelphia and Phoenix. The expanded network allows customers to connect from destinations across the United States.
